Having Zales e-ring resized somewhere else

Karen, on July 8, 2018 at 7:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
Hi All! 🙂
My boyfriend proposed with a beautiful ring that I do not want to live without, even though I've only had it for like a day 😋 sadly, it definitely needs to be resized, but it kills me to know it could take 2-12 weeks 😱 (according to what they told my fiance).

If this is the case, I will truly be heartbroken, so does anyone know if zales can tell if you go somewhere else to resize? I do not want to lose the lifetime warranty. Or are there zales location in southern California that anyone knows about with same day resizing?? Thank you for the help!! 🤗

Congratulations! Even if you go somewhere else, that time frame is pretty standard. I remember feeling that way too but honestly, after the first 2 days I forgot and mine ended up being back within 2 weeks. Better to be without it for a couple weeks than be without it because it doesn't fit properly and you lose it. I hope that helps lol You get to wear it for a lifetime after those couple weeks.

I got mine resized and soldered at a local jeweler. Zale’s still honored the cleaning and checking of the diamonds.

My ring was a size too big and it took my jeweler 3 weeks to resize it. I don’t know of any place that can resize a ring in just a day or two, and if they said they could I would be worried about the quality of their work.

Check the warranty. If you take it back to Zales after it's resized they'll more than likely look up the serial number when they inspect it/clean it to make sure you have a warranty and they'll be able to tell it was resized elsewhere.

I don’t know of any jeweler that does same day resizing. Even my local jeweler that I take my rings to takes 1-2 weeks. You don’t want them to rush and end up messing up the ring.

First off, congrats on your engagement!
My local jeweler was able to resize my ring in 3 days, but it was a very simple band. The typical timeframe is at least 2 weeks unfortunately. 12 weeks seems super crazy though!

Check Jared. They usually have a jeweler onsite. My FMIL had her ring resized and it took like 30 min I don't know where she went though, so not parting with it is possible.

Resizing a ring to make it smaller is a not usually a same day thing. It depends on how much it needs to be cut down and how elaborate your ring is. If it's a simple band without any side stones it is easier but if you do have stones they have to be extremely careful not to ruin or compromise the prong settings on the side. I completely understand not wanting to let go of your ring for that long especially if you are newly engaged. You could do a quick fix for the moment and have them put a ring guard in which can then come off at any time when you are ready to resize.

My rings are from Zales. They have been re sized already and each one (engagement and wedding band) only took 3-4 weeks. In fact, that is the exact timeline we were told by the Zales associate, so I'm surprised to hear they told him up to 12 weeks. I would go back to Zales and ask them to confirm the timeline, and also ask about the warranty situation if another shop works on your ring.

Same thing happened to me but Kay's. We took it to a local jeweler the day he proposed and they refused to touch it since it was so new and several sizes too big. Took it back to the store and they had it back to us in two weeks. I felt naked for that time but it gave us an excuse to keep the engagement to ourselves which was really fun and exciting. Once I had it back, we announced our engagement and got a silicone ring in case it ever needs to be sent in again

Jared resized my ring in two days (two full sizes), though it was purchased at Zales.

    Congrats on your engagement!

Fiance got my ring from Reeds. Mine was custom and they still fudged the sizing. It took less than a week to get it resized, but I have a simple band in the back.

Thank you all for the help and input! 🤗

Just to let others know what happened to help with their situations:
My fiancee and I went to a few local jewelers that Sunday. Most were closed or didn't have their jeweler there that day. One jewelry shop said their jeweler would be there Tuesday and could do it in a few hours. Jared gave me a similar response. Then we tried another Jared's in chino hills, ca and said they could do it that Sunday, and my warranty wouldn't be voided because jared and zales are owned by the same person. That was over the phone. But when we got there, they forgot to mention that it needed to reverted by zales, that I couldn't just bring it in 😑😑 so after all that running around, we went back to zales and are waiting (semi patiently ☹☹) for the 2 weeks to be up! Hope this is hopeful to others!

Karen, I’m in the same situation as you with my ring, although I’m sure you’ve long figured it out by now lol. Did you end up sending it off to be resized at Zales or did you wait to have it switched over to Jared’s? If you did it through Zales can I ask how the experience was. I’m super nervous to send it away and read some questionable reviews...

    Hi Jenna,
I did end up having it resized at Zales and had to wait the full 2 weeks ☹ the date they said I could go pick it up with the exact date it ended up being ready. My experience was good, though! Nothing was wrong with the ring and no complaints 🤗 hopefully your experience is the same! Best of luck!
