Having your pet in the engagement photos?

M, on April 18, 2017 at 10:40 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 46

Hi all,

Has anyone done their engagement photos with their dog? I see this all the time but have never known anyone who has done it. If you've had your pet in your engagement shoot was it worth it? Was it more hassle than what it was worth? Pros and cons? Our puppy Ellie is 6 months old I thought this would be a cool opportunity to get "family photos" with all three of us but I'm not sure how she will do. Our photographer loves to have pets involved so that's not an issue! I also added a photo of my sweet girl lol Smiley smile

Have a great day everyone!

We had our dogs in a small part of our engagement shoot! We would've had them longer, but one of them gets freaked out when he hears loud noises like fireworks or gun shots and of course, someone started shooting one of those off. We did get a few good pictures though! I would say it all just depends on your dog's behavior and how you think they would behave for the pictures. I'll edit to add a pic.

We did! Per the recommendation of our photographer, we kept our dog in the car for the first part of the session to get plenty of good photos of just us, and brought him in at the end. She said sometimes pets can add frustration if they don't cooperate and can completely derail the appointment if the couple gets flustered. Including pets at the end meant that even if it doesn't go perfectly, (ours did not!) that you still have plenty of great photos.

ETA: your pup is super cute!

I brought treats to our engagement photo. See main pic. It helped a lot keeping her focus. I ended up running out and had to fake it. She's too smart for that. I would definitely include your pup though.

Oh my goodness she is so cute!!! If you do, you should bring a friend or family member to stay with her while you take additional pictures. We wanted to, but we decided to opt out, since our dog has anxiety issues and we knew she wasn't going to stay calm with anybody. We probably will do a short session (30 mins or so) with only our dog.

Our pup was in ours, he is a handful so it was a little tough to get him settled enough to pose but it was totally worth it to us to include him

We did and I'm so happy with them! We had a friend come to the photo shoot and play with her while we were taking pictures of just us. They turned out so wonderful!

My friend had her dog in her engagement and wedding photos, and it is so cute! And your pup is so adorable!

They're part of the family, so I definitely say go for it if you're able. We took ours out of state so we had to leave the dog at home, but he'll be in town the week of our wedding so I am for sure having someone grab him from his boarding place for a few photos at some point during the day!

We did. My brother came with us to take him when we were done. My pup was only 8 months old when we did ours. I think he was a little young for that. We got 3 good pics. Probably should have done those last because it was a little frustrating trying to get him to look at the photographer instead of us.

This was the cutest one we got of him. He's also a protector and didnt get to sniff our photographer enough so he was mad, as you can tell by his face.

We got 2 good photos with the dogs . Ended up doing them on my parents property. Our dogs don't have very good manners so we did some close to the house with them. Then we took them inside and ventured further from the house with just us and the photographer. Photo credit The Focused Soul.

I loved having our dog with us! My MOH came with to give him water and treats and hold him if need be, and our photographer knew him so she could move him anywhere and there wasn't an issue. It was pretty busy where we were (bikes, hikers) and he didn't care at all.
