Having photography doubts?

mary, on August 13, 2019 at 1:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
So we went to see someone offering a package to include DJ/MC/Photographer/videographer and some other extras. Thing is I started having doubts and after seeing the website photos even more worry. For example there is a picture of champagne glasses, someone left a sticker on the glass. To me this shows there was no editing whatsoever on the pictures. Plus I wouldn't even put up the pictures on site. Anyways I found another photographer, no perks, just photos, but I absolutely love the style. I plan on meeting w/her to just see. Btw I really don't have the budget to shell out 4k on a photographer. Suggestions?

I would met with the photographer that you love and see if you guys vibe well. Also she can give you a better explanation of pricing. But if she is out of your price range then I would continue to look and maybe something is better out there but if not you can always hire the first photographer! I spent more on my pictures because I know they are going to last forever and I really want nice quality and amazing pictures.

I agree with this. There are literally thousands of photogs on WW. I went through and if someone posted posed pictures with a crooked horizon in the background I instantly eliminated them. You'd be surprised how talentless, sloppy and inexperienced some 4k photogs are. Every novice with a non-cellphone camera these days thinks they can charge that price. If you take your time and search for people with great reviews and quality pics within your budget, it should exist.

Agree with pps. Also, it seemed many of the vendors that "bundle" a range of services are basically just a "middle man" who contracts with a bunch of different vendors -- sort of like a general contractor if you were having a major renovation done on your home (e.g., you pick the contractor, but don't really know who he will send to do the plumbing work...). From the ones we talked with (only at a Bridal Fair), the big caution is that the couple isn't necessarily selecting/contracting with a particular service provider (e.g., a specific photographer or DJ) they just have a contract that the "bundler" will provide someone to do those services. As a result, who you actually work with and their talent/qualifications can vary a LOT, and you may not have much say in who/what you get. If your goal is just to have people do those jobs at a low cost, it can be effective that way. If you feel like you're "picky" about exactly what you want from those providers, it might not be a good fit. Good luck!

Hi Mary! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

If you are not happy with the photographers quality of work, then you should totally keep looking. It’s great that you have found another photographer whose style you love. What is it about their style that appeals to you? It’s a good idea to meet with them, even if they are out of your budget. You will be able to check out what is involved in their fee and will be a great frame of reference if you meet with other photographers.
