Having Doubts About My Dress

Cheryl, on July 27, 2019 at 6:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26
Out of curiosity, have any of you ever had doubts about whether or not you chose the right dress?

I found my dress online and for at least 2 weeks straight I couldn't stop thinking about it so I ordered it but it will need altering closer to the time. Recently Ive found myself browsing other wedding dresses just to confirm to myself that I have made the right choice. I know this is probably stupid in case I find another and change my mind.

Maybe I need to get it out of its box again and try it on. What are your thoughts?

I think it's natural to second guess yourself, but you need to put that doubt behind you and remember how much you love the dress you have. One tip I have that helped me is to stop looking at other dresses and delete all pictures of other dresses off of your phone. This way your dress is the only one you'll look at so this is the dress you'll picture when thinking about your big day.
I bought my dress last September and am finally getting to wear it in 7 days.... there were times I second guessed myself, but I absolutely love my dress, so I just pulled up the pictures of me trying it on. Worked every time.

I did, and do. I bought my dress two days ago, and now I am having seconds thoughts after looking at the dress I originally wanted. I was looking at dresses online and I thought I had an idea of what I wanted, but when I went to David’s bridal and they had me try on different styles, I ended up getting something slightly different. Looking back at the pictures I took of myself in the dress, I’m having “buyers remorse”. I just have to remind myself that I got it for a reason, and that reason is because I did originally like it, and I’m just doubting myself like I do at times.

STOP LOOKING at other dresses. Period. That’s number 1. Number 2 is tons of us go through dress regret, you can’t let it win. I just finally overcame mine today at my first alterations appointment. When I got an idea of how it’ll look properly altered, my whole perspective on it changed. 3 is, if you find you really really hate it, it’s okay to try again.

I agree. That's one thing I committed to after I found mine. DO NOT CHEAT ON YOUR DRESS, I had some worries but after I started with alterations I fell even more in love with my dress.

I think a lot of brides second guess their dress. I had my dress custom made exactly how I wanted it and I still second guessed it! I was so nervous about how it would look but I just had to trust my decision, sense of style, and the dressmaker's talent. In the end, it was gorgeous, perfect for me, and I got so many compliments.

As others have said, stop looking at other dresses! Be confident in your decision and move on to other decisions you need to make.

I totally understand, I’ve already had second thoughts and I just bought mine Wednesday! My issue is I bought a silhouette I never imagined and I went in thinking I wanted something sparkly and got a dress that is stunning but does not have any sparkle (I’m undecided still about adding a belt for sparkle). I deleted all dress puns off Pinterest and I’m not going to look at any dresses. Hopefully that helps!

I have serious doubts about my dress. It doesn’t fit quite right and I know it’ll be fine once I get it altered closer to my date, but right now I have a hard time visualizing it and that’s hard.

I did the same thing. I bought a dress very quickly I guess out of excitement without doing a lot of research. I really like it but it was also only the third one I tried on. I loved all the sparkle!! I figured out that I needed to have more boning in my dress To hold it up. I ended up going into a few boutiques in Tampa and then bought my Stella york dress (new w tags from a boutique) online at preownedweddingdresses.com. The First dress Just to not give me the wow factor that I was looking for. I have no doubts now that I have found the right dress!!!

I definitely did! My dress has been made by a local shop, and I second-guessed my decision almost every day until my first fitting. Everyone does, especially if you keep looking at others!

I started doubting my dress almost as soon as I left the store. There was another dress on my mind that I loved, but my entourage loved the dress we ended up buying on me. Fast forward a few months and I love it so much! I honestly don't think I would pick any other dress if I had to go back. It's normal to have doubts, but don't let it consume you Smiley smile

First off, love the SN. Smiley tongue I agree with this. I had doubts the second the deposit payment went through. Five minutes earlier, I loved, loved the dress. I had it on for an hour because I couldn't bring myself to take it off. As soon as I paid, I immediately defaulted back to my original love - one of the very first dresses I tried on. It's been 2 weeks and I still look at that dress everyday, but I also look at my chosen dress everyday and give myself pep talks. "You made the right choice. The dress really is pretty. You got this, girl." Things like that. Dress regret is a serious illness. I wish you luck, Cheryl! Smiley xd I think you should definitely try it on again, but get yourself dolled up and tell yourself all the things you love about it, that drew you to purchase it in the first place. And if you really truly can't afford to even purchase another dress, then that will solidify things a little better for you - just knowing that that's your only option (and its the best one).

Every now and then I feel this way, too. I bought my dress very early on and had too much time to look at pinterest.
Whenever i feel this way i look at the pictures i have of myself in my dress and i quickly rememeber why i loved the dress to begin with.

I had been eyeing my dress online for a while and when I put it on at the store, I cried before I even saw it. Then when it came in and I had all of my fitting appointments, I hated it. There was no real reason - it looked great on me, and it's a beautiful dress! I just really wished I'd gotten something else. Something about it just wasn't right for me anymore. I'd already paid over $1000 on it, though, and wasn't going to get any of it back so I just kept it. It happens, but hopefully you'll fall in love with it and be able to enjoy it and your day.

I know the feeling! I love my dress, but I also see pics of dresses popping up on IG, etc and sometimes worried if I made the right choice. Once I took my dress for alterations and added the belt and a few other elements that I knew I wanted it all came together. This week I’m doing my hair/makeup trial for my last fitting so I’m sure seeing it all together will make a difference. It’s tough, but I had to stop looking at other dresses and remember how confident I was when I chose mine.

I have this feeling too. I think it’s becasue I don’t have any clue how my hair will look with it. So I’m concerned that it won’t match the style. The dress I bought was not what I was expecting and it was not “in my comfort zone” of what I would have pinned online. But it made me happy when I had tried it on and I do like how it looks on certain pictures from the when I first bought it. I think you just have to trust yourself and yeah, don’t cheat on your dress ! Unless you can sell it for full price and buy the one you think you really want haha
