Have you ever heard of a Dj charging $1200 only for party lights?

Ssmafe84, on June 20, 2019 at 3:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19
Should a DJ charge separate for each service?

Well thats the question I ask, because the venue were we are going to do our wedding provides a package. This package contains cake, food, bar service(no alcohol), DJ.

We meet a few days ago with the dj and this DJ explained to us that if we want add extra stuff such as regular disco lights it will cost $350, if we wanted the low cloud effect it will be another $300, lights with logos of designs it will cost $350 and last but not least if we wanted monogram with ours names ir will have a cost of $450. A final total of $1450!! plus he asked for a playlist of music because he doesn't really know about Colombian/Miami style party.

Can someone please help us, any advice ? our wedding is July 20,2019!

That sounds pretty standard. All of those things are add ons and usually not included in a typical DJ package.

I think thats normal. We are paying about $1200 for 6 hours, and the party lights are included although I asked him not to use them. I think any DJ asks for a playlist to get an idea of what you all like. We aren’t providing the whole line up but we provided about 30-40 songs we want played and about 20 songs we don’t want.

Add on's cost additional money. That's why they're called add-ons....

Most DJs also ask for a song preference list so that's not abnormal either.

This is all normal. Most people don’t choose all of those different light packages though.

This is totally normal. Those things are usually "add-ons" for a DJ service and aren't included in their base price.

No problem! We paid $1750 for a DJ for ceremony/cocktail hour/reception in Carmel, CA and uplighting was an extra charge. I haven’t been to many weddings that have a ton of lighting add ons because they are usually so expensive.

This is normal. If we want lighting, we would have to pay extra. My DJ also asked us to fill out a form with preferences. Not unusual.

It sounds normal...sadly..i'm running into that too. Even bare bones I can't afford the prices. The lowest i've found is 500 and that's out of the question. If I don't figure something out it'll be an Iheartradio playlist

Totally normal. My dj had add ons for an added cost too. You don't need all that anyway to be honest

As PP have said this is normal. We are paying $1850 for our DJ. This includes unlimited time, set up/tear down of his equipment at the venue, music for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, being the MC for the night, and uplighting. If we wanted a monogram we would have had to pay an additional $100.

Yes, add ons are typical. We are paying $1,100 for just DJ service. It seems like $1450 for music & all that is fine.

Check out RentMyWedding. We rented cordless uplights (free shipping) for $25/each. I know they have monogram lighting, starry night sky & other cool lighting options for a LOT less.

Yup normal, they are added services and added set up... so why wouldn’t they be at an added cost??

And you wouldn't get all those things so it wouldn't add up to 1450. You wouldn't need reg disco lights and low cloud effect and lights with logos and lights with a monogram. That's a lot going on in my opinion. Plus a monogram is basically a logo anyway, right???

It's normal and reasonable. Professionals aren't obligated to provide those things as a package or to give you a deal. You could find your own things for cheaper if you want but with the DJ, you are also getting someone to set this all up. 🤷‍♀️
