Have you adjusted to the word "fiancé(e)"?

Lynnie, on April 13, 2018 at 10:53 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 44

One of the toughest changes for me was trying to get used to using the word "fiancé", and now remembering to call him my husband!

Did you make the switch to "fiancé(e)" easily? Do you like the word "fiancé(e)"? Sometimes I'd feel so silly saying it and it felt like I was seeking congratulatory responses! What about you?

FH and I both already say 'husband' and 'wife' lol. We kind of skipped over fiance, I have to correct myself all the time.

I rarely use the word because it sounds so goofy to me when I say it lol

Lol i hate fiancee for some reason, it makes me feel so fussy. I still just say "partner" (because I felt so juvenile using "boyfriend"), and can't wait to transition to "husband"!

Lol still call him fiancé and boyfriend by accident all the time

I also called him mom the other day so maybe I just need a nap...

I have, but thinking about the words "husband" and "wife" still weirds me out, in a good way!

I feel weird about it still and it's been over a year. To the people who know us I just refer to him by his name. I teach spanish while in grad school for spanish literature so I speak the language during the day a lot. The phrase "mi pareja" is more casual or at least more commonly used in spanish than "my partner"which I think is a bit more loaded? I think it implies that I'm not willing to share specifics. But I do shy away from fiancé because I don't like to talk wedding with strangers. I'm giddy to call him my husband haha.

I felt weird even calling him boyfriend and fiance was no different. I'm finally getting used to it now that we're only 2+ months from our wedding. I think husband and wife will be an easier transition as far as what we call each other.

When he talks about me, he calls me his fiancee or "my girl," but for me, saying "my guy" or "my man" also sounds weird. I like being able to say "FH" here - it's so much easier.

It's been a month and a half, so I have now, but I'll admit at first it took some getting used to, lol.

Yes, it was very easy for us to make the switch. We'd been "boyfriend and girlfriend" for so long that I think we were both suuuper ready to upgrade the titles, and it came very naturally to us.

I have no problem saying fiance or future husband. He refers to me as his future wife, wife, his better half and his girl.

Once or twice in private he tried out using Mrs. Hislastname. That weirded me out a bit.

Yesterday I called him husband. That surprised me a little.

I keep saying boyfriend and awkwardly correcting myself. Its embaressing haha.

I think the wedding will help me make the switch to husband easier. I have a co-worker who already refers to him as "the hubby" so maybe that will help Smiley xd

I don't like the word; I would say "I'm marrying Name", or just his name.

I had a hard time with it when he first proposed. When I introduced my roommate to him I choked on the word. Now it's pretty easy, but I still prefer to refer to him by his name. FH got into it fast and calls me his wife frequently.

I had a really hard time with it at first because it felt weird to say. Now that we are about a month away from the wedding, I feel a little more comfortable saying it. We'll see how the transition to husband goes lol.
