Have i waited too long for the venue contract?

Hello!

We just recently got engaged and we are planning to have our wedding in November 2026. We toured a couple of venues and fell in love with one specifically. A couple of days after the tour (this past Saturday) we texted our venue contact to let her know that we would like to have our wedding at her venue and asked the next steps. She immediately responded and said “Yay! I’ll send the contract to your email.” So I gave her my email. She never responded and we never saw the contract come through. I followed up with her this past Monday and asked if she knew when we would be receiving the contract. She responded “this week” and we still have not received anything.
In my mind, I expected to be sent the contract pretty soon so we could reserve our specific date. The policy of the venue is that the date isn’t reserved until they have received the deposit, but we cannot provide that if we don’t have the contract.
At this point, it’s been 6 days and we still haven’t received the contract. I am definitely feeling a lot of stress and pressure since wedding planning is like another job in itself. Am I worrying over nothing? Is it normal to have to wait this long for a venue contract?

Can you ask for a letter as confirmation that the date is being reserved for you? Maybe they can do a letter of intent to do the contract. It seems weird that they are not trying to secure the agreement right away.

Meanwhile check what some contract issues could seem wrong as may be common. For example, you should get a refund if they withdrawal from providing the venue for you. Of course, you can ask for changes to a contract but knowing they may not agree to changes you request.
