Have had hives all week. Freaking out

Anonymous, on June 19, 2014 at 9:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

So on saturday I broke out in this weird case of hives. I have never gotten hives before ever but they won't go away! I am freaking out crying because I am scared I will have them on my wedding day. I went to the doctor and they scheduled an allergy test but I feel like I doubt it will find anything because I haven't tried anything new and it's probably not food because if it would have gone away by now. They are awful. Has anyone had this happen? Do you think they'll be gone by my wedding?

Have you tried taking an oatmeal bath? I had hives for about 4 days once, and the oatmeal baths really helped me. You still have two months, don't worry too much yet!

I too had this happen to me not to long ago, I went to see my Dr and she put me on a histamine and gave me a script for the itching and swelling. She said that mine were stress induced, weird cuz I have never experienced hives before this. They were so itchy and embarassing, I was mortified. I thought I was getting bitten by bugs, so I had my house exterminated, and mind you I was the only one getting bit, there are 2 other people in the house with me "LOL" . I was thankful that it was not bugs and instead hives. Good luck........... Please go to your Dr.

I haven't tried the oatmeal bath yet but I will. I can't stop crying at work I have been googling none stop and it basically sounds like they probably won't be able to figure it out with this allergy testing saturday because I don't regularly get hives so they are probably just happening. Thanks for the advice!

I am sure they are stress induced and you crying and being upset over them is not helping you de-stress and certainly wont help them go away. You have to take a chill pill! You still have PLENTY of time for them to go away before the wedding but you have got to relax!

I had them one time in my life. Mine were nerves and lasted about 24 hours maybe a tad more.

My ex had left in November for another woman. She called two days before my son's 5th birthday party saying that she was coming. It was not pretty. I broke out from head to toe overnight before the party.

They can definitely be caused by a lot of things.

You could have developed an allergy to something you use. Your lotion may have changed their ingredients. I got them for several days because I got a new desk chair. The chemicals they treat the fabric with was a problem for me.

Try to relax and please STOP GOOGLING about them. Google is not always your friend.

I wouldn't discount it being an allergy, over time your body can become more sensitive to things and create an allergic reaction. Hives are your bodies way of defending itself against something it feels it has touched, smelled or ingested. I have chronic urticaria ( hives) I once had them everyday head to toe for 9 months. It is painful. I took prednisone on pretty high doses and then also got a steroid shot. Best thing is to try and not stress, it makes them worse, also take a look at your diet, alot of foods we dont even realize have histamines ( I try to limit my intake which is super hard). I too fear of having them on the wedding day, considering I have been good with none for 3 months until 2 weeks ago and now I have them every week ( i think due to the weather change). If anything the photographer can airbrush them out.

Very well could be stress induced, but you can grow in to allergies that you've never had before. And the allergies could be to stuff you have used your entire life (body wash, lotion, laundry detergent, fabric softener ect.) If they find nothing with the allergy testing GREAT!!! Stressing over them is only going to make them worse.

I get stress hives, and I have allergies. I agree with the oatmeal baths.

I break out in hives all the time. Apparently I'm allergic to moisture in the air, dust, cold weather, etc. Benadryl is my friend. It might make you sleepy at first but it doesn't have that effect on me anymore. Hope you find out the cause of your hives and try not to stress out. That only makes it worse.

Try 1% hydrocortisone.. You can buy it from practically any store that sells medicine. I had a reaction to some lotion once and that's what my doctor told me to get.

Agreed with the others. Most likely is stressed induced, but you could have also developed an allergy to something. You've got to stop freaking out about them, though. It'll only make them worse. I break out all the time from random allergies that I never used to have. Try the oatmeal bath, hydrocortisone cream, and oral Benadryl until your appointment to get tested.

I have cholinergic uticaria which came out of nowhere one day and I still deal with years later. It's from a raise in body temperature either from exercise or stress induced. I've been talking Zyrtec almost daily for the past few years and it has really helped with keeping the hives under control. Try it and see if it helps you.

I break out into hives when stressed. It sucks. You just have to try to calm down (difficult). Benadryl may or may not help. Maybe a bubble bath and a good book?

I also get physical hives, those occur when I scratch my skin, rub my skin, take a bath, etc. I've been to an allergist, my skin is just crazy and likes hives. It will be okay.

Also, are they welts (large raised red circles), small bumps or small red flat hives? I know if I get welts it's either stress or an allergic reaction. The small bumps is a contact reaction to something or physical hives and the flat ones are most likely physical hives. (I know way too much about hives....)
