Hashtag

Once you decide on a hashtag (or if you have a couple in mind that you're deciding between), first search for it on social media to check if anyone else is already using it, and if not, then list it on your wedding website, use it in any wedding social media posts, and/or display it at your wedding to let your guests know what hashtag to use if they choose to share photos! There's no way to formally "claim" a hashtag or prevent anyone else from using it, but if you find one that's unique enough, chances are that no one else will be using it.

You can also start using it now to get some traction. Post a picture doing some wedding prep, getting your marriage license, checking out the venue, etc and then use your hashtag when you post. And then if a different couple tries to use that hashtag they will see it and be less likely to use the same one.
