Hashtag for dummies

Julia, on July 14, 2022 at 3:40 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 3
Hey everyone! Please explain how to hashtag at our wedding. All I’m seeing is help coming up with a hashtag. I get that part. Do I need to create a wedding instagram page? Where do all the hashtaged photos go? Help! I’m old and don’t do a to. Of social media. Thx

Hi Julia! When people create a post about your wedding on either Facebook or Instagram, they can add your wedding hashtag in the post. The hashtag becomes a link, and you can click on it or search for it to see all posts that use that hashtag. It's a quick way of finding posts from your friends about the wedding (assuming they put the hashtag in the post). This is also why you'd want your hashtag to be as unique as possible - if anyone else is using the same hashtag for their wedding, their posts would also show up in the search.

If you’re not a big social media user, you may find a hash tag won’t have much value to you. I’ve been to lots of events with hash tags and try to use the tag to search later and don’t come up with many results — that’s because you can only see the results that are public OR posted by people you are “friends” with on that medium. My circle tends to have private profiles, so unless we have friended eachother, I won’t see their posts even with the hashtag. For that reason, I skipped one for my wedding— I’m not connected on Instagram to the majority of my guests! That said, in that case, making a wedding Instagram account where you can “friend” your guests may be a good solution to get around that!
