Has anyone used Little Borrowed Dress (now called Union Station) for their bridesmaids' dresses?

Lauren + Ryan, on June 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Just curious if any of you have used Little Borrowed Dress, which has recently rebranded to Union Station, for your bridesmaid dresses. The photos on their website are lovely, but I'm curious about their quality and their customer service. I have four bridesmaids (no MOH) and would like them to wear long chiffon dresses in different shades of gray, and two are considering renting from Union Station. Thanks for any info you might have!

I haven't, but I have several fabric swatches from them. I like it!

I was trying to go with this option to save my girls money, but I have one BM who is very adamant that nothing will fit her so she refuses, so I'm looking into other options.

Nicole, several of my gals have never rented dresses before so they are worried about fit. From the website and the FAQs it seems they really work with you to get you the right sizes. Hopefully someone will chime in that they are lovely dresses and fit all body types beautifully to curb our fears. Smiley smile

    Truth!

She is a bit bigger, but I honestly don't think she's too big to fit a basic dress. I did see statistics that the posted about the % that needed to use the 2nd dress, the % that had to get a THIRD dress. Both were pretty low.

OMG, WORST DRESS RENTAL COMPANY EVER. DO NOT USE! After multiple website crashes, everyone had problems with their order. One bridesmaid kept trying to order one dress, and it would only allow her to order three (of the same dress). She kept calling and calling customer service and got snobby sounding teenagers who were rude. Two other bridesmaids kept getting blocked out of the site, and by the time we were finally able to complete the order process it was one day short of three months lead time and no one could order anything at all. It took so much time and energy to get the orders right, I just wish I had gone to a store instead. I hope the dresses are OK, but none of them have arrived yet. I'll post again when and if they ever do. They make the ordering so difficult and the customer service is so bad, I don't think they actually want our business.

I was a bridesmaid in a party, on Sunday, in which we rented from Union Station. I also work in the bridal world. IMO these dresses are super cheaply made, yes they looked good in photos, but you are getting what you paid for. My dress came in 2 weeks before the wedding, I tried it on, it fit, I put it away until this past Sunday. On Sunday, I go to put the dress on, and it doesn't zip. The way the dress is sewn, the material is extremely thick at the seam and it makes it very difficult to zip. All the girls had issues. It took about 15 mins and 3 people to help zip my dress. Then after moving around a bit, taking pictures, we notice the zipper is totally buckling... It does not lie flat. Now I have a huge hump in my back from the zipper. I would of never found this out from just trying it on to make sure it fit. So we had to rig the dress up, so I didn't have a large hump for all the photos! Needless to say, I wasn't too thrilled with my experience and did send them pictures and an email, which I have yet to hear back from...

I used Little Borrowed Dress for my wedding (right before the name change). They had the colors and styles that I was looking for at a reasonable price, which was hard to find. In addition, 3 out of 5 of my bridesmaids were from out of town so it was a bit of a challenge finding something that would work for everyone.

Overall I think I made a good choice. I visited the showroom in the NYC twice and they were very helpful. I tried on all of the styles myself to check out the quality and fit. Everyone decided to rent and they all received their dresses in time, about 2 weeks before the wedding. 1 bridesmaid even had to order a different size and she received that in time as well. 3 girls wore the v-neck wrap dress and there were some fit issues because of the low-cut, but they all made it work by using wardrobe tape or wearing a slip. 2 others wore the halter style, which looked great. For the price, the quality seemed good to me. Plus my wedding was a little more on the casual side, I’m not sure it would work for a black tie/formal wedding.

If anyone has questions or wants more info I’d be happy to help.

DO NOT RENT FROM LITTLE BORROWED DRESS / UNION STATION!!! THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!!

    *Sizing:

My friend was getting married and I am her curviest bridesmaid. 38DD, normally a 12 or 14 dress size, but LBD's dress sizes are terribly inaccurate! Check the measurements! I did, and, to my fear, their "16/18" dress size was not large enough for my bust. I called them (I'm in CA, they're in NY), explained my sizing situation, and asked what happens if I rent their largest size and it doesn't fit? The girl on the phone says that I can exchange it for another size... But if I get the largest size and it's too small, how can I exchange it for a larger size? Idiot. I asked if they had larger sizes. They told me they do not, and THEY GET ASKED THAT QUESTION ALL THE TIME AND HAVEN'T MADE LARGER SIZES. So, basically, they do not care if you're curvy at all. I asked if there was a way that they could send me a dress just to try on that I could send back immediately, just to be able to see if I could squeeze into it. No. Do you have any stores on the West Coast? No. Is there any way I could try it on somehow??? No. So if I rent, when will the dress arrive? 2 weeks before the wedding. She said that if it doesn't fit, I could turn the $75 rental into a $200 purchase and have it altered. 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE WEDDING I'M SUPPOSED TO HAVE IT ALTERED?!?!? That's insane. I asked if there was any kind of price break, since the rented dress would be used? Nope. You purchase at full price a dress that someone else has sweated in. Gross. The only option I saw was to purchase the dress at full price, so that it would be a brand-new dress and it would arrive a full month before the wedding. I ordered the Hillary dress because I figured the strapless was my best bet at having enough space for my cleavage. (I wanted something with sleeves, but they don't have any sleeved dresses).

    *Shipment:

I received a tracking number that my order was ready to ship. I waited. A week went by. The tracking number said that my package had never been picked up, only the number had been created. I tried calling. No one answered, no answering machine. I tried email. No response. THEY NEVER CHECK THEIR EMAILS. After a week of calling, I FINALLY got a hold of someone - it turned out one of their employees SIMPLY DECIDED THAT MY DRESS WAS A RENTAL AND NOT A PURCHASE SO THEY WEREN'T GOING TO SEND IT TO ME UNTIL IT WOULD BE 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE WEDDING INSTEAD OF THE MONTH I WAS PROMISED. INSANE!!! Thank goodness I was able to finally get a hold of someone!

    *Quality:

When it FINALLY arrived, I could squeeze into it just enough to make it work, thank goodness. But it was not pretty. (Thank goodness I bought a miraculous longline bra from Strut in LB.) The workmanship was ABYSMAL! The breast padding was sewn in badly so that the top rolled down, the hem at the bottom of both types of material was disastrously crooked - for a $200 dress sewn to order, it was pretty cheaply made. And ALL of the dresses in the bridal party were like that. A couple had really crappy zippers that we had to struggle with too. Also, the dress length on their website is called "regular" and "long", and being short at 5'3" I ordered the "regular" - but it would be more accurate to call the lengths "long" and "longer" - it was a trip hazard for everyone in the party! Only the 5" heels that I bought would have made the dress length workable. I decided to do a temporary hem instead. The only good thing about the dress was that the color was beautiful (plum).

    *Fellow Bridesmaids:

Everyone else rented (except for one bridesmaid who hit "purchase" by mistake, and LBD wouldn't turn it into a rental so she was stuck with the purchase. Lovely customer service). But only 1 of the other 5 dresses arrived on time. Thank goodness I called, because it sounded like THEY HAD FORGOTTEN TO SHIP THE OTHER DRESSES!!! They said that they would ship that day and we would receive them the next day, which means they had to ship them overnight BECAUSE THEY FORGOT!!! The other bridesmaids who had sent emails never received a reply.

    *Rating:

The one star is because Rachel was nice enough to turn my purchase into a rental since I wasn't going to alter it. She also sent me some extra fabric: I wanted to make a bolero (and basically make my own "sleeves" since they don't have a dress style for that).

*Photo: It's not the best photo, but you can see that it's so poorly sewn that the top of the dress rolls down and you can see the liner. The size is too small on me so the bust fabric is all stretched out - like I said, I could just barely squeeze in. The color is nice. It was nice that I could use the same fabric to make the bolero myself.

    *Advice:

If you absolutely cannot convince your bride to choose bridesmaid dresses from somewhere else, be sure to keep a close eye on your order. Call, do not email (not once did any of us ever receive an emailed reply, I don't think they even monitor their email account). If you're bustier than a 38DD there is no way in hell the dress will fit you. I highly recommend Hollywood Fashion Secrets Temporary Hem Tape so that you can hem the dress to the proper length since you're not allowed to use any kind of pin or safety pin in the dress. And I suggest Hollywood Fashion Secrets Fashion Tape to ensure the fabric sticks to your skin. Good luck.

    HI!

I just got married this past August and had my girls use Union Station (it was switched names right before the wedding). Two if them are petite and 2 arent. My one bridesmaid was concerned about the largest size fitting so she called and ended up purchasing the dress, they worked with her to send extra fabric so that she could have it altered. She had them deliver it about a month before the other dresses arrived. You couldn't really tell unless she lifted her arm that any extra fabric was added. My littler ladies were in the smallest size and they said there was some wiggle room but with the way the dress was you can adjust the bust section and the middle has an elastic band. We had no issues at all with them coming too late or not fitting, they all looked great. I recommend this company, it was so much cheaper than going to a bridal shop! Also, I loved the fact that the dresses came with a back up size just in case you are unsure if you are in between sizes. I haven't heard anything regarding any issues that anyone had with ordering or anything. I was copied on the emails to customer service regarding my one bridesmaid who had questions about sizing. They were polite and helpful. I'm very pleased with this company Smiley smile
