Has anyone heard of SoKind Registry?

Liz Ann, on February 4, 2014 at 2:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

I just learned about SoKind Registry and thought I would share it with everyone. "SoKind is a registry service that encourages the giving of homemade gifts, charitable donations, secondhand goods, experiences, time, day-of-event help, and more."

Here is a link from Upworthy, talking about SoKind:

What do you think about this? Cool or lame?

Not a huge fan, it may be a good choice for some couples, but I definitely wouldnt do it.

I dunno....I kind of like it...better than any other registry, so far! LOL It does not beat good ole cash gifts...but wow...pretty cool alternative!

I like how people can donate their time to you, instead of a gift! When I was a poor college student, I would have loved an option like that!

I think it's a neat/cute idea. I was looking at traditional registry lists the other day and we already own 90% of what tends to be on there, so we're kind of like "well now what?" for that sort of thing.

I think it is a cool idea. Especially as an alternative for couples that have everything they need and for guests that are not well off financially. When I was in college, a friend was getting married. I was working 2 jobs and going to school. With having little money, this would have been great. I don't think this would work for everyone. It's the same as other registries like Honeyfund. It doesn't work for everyone but some people will really like it.

The only thing I don't like to do is give/get donations made in my name. The minute they have your info, you get solicited for more donations forever and ever and ever. A friend's Dad passed away. A group of us put together a donation to the organization he was most passionate about. Because the money was paid by me, I am still getting requests for donations 4 years later.

Thank you for the advice about the donations! I didn't know they solicited like that.
