Has anyone had their dress taken in several sizes?

Chey, on February 21, 2020 at 9:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I found the dress of my dreams a few weeks ago but the problem is, if I order the dress in my size ( 0 ) it will not be here until after our wedding has come and gone. I have a family friend who is an amazing seamstress and I had the upmost confidence in, so I bought the sample size dress (in a size 6) with the plan of her taking it in for me. This seamstress friend has since ghosted me before I could even ask her about the dress. I only have a week to return the dress and I’ve reached out to several seamstresses. I’m wondering though, has anyone had this issue? Did you have your dress taken in that many sizes? And what should I expect to pay?

The rule of thumb is that you can take in a dress 2 sizes and let it out 1. But depending on how intricate the dress is and the cut it varies. Have any of the other seamstresses get back to you? Why not use the seamstress at the boutique ?

The dress I bought was a sale dress at a size 16 with a zip up back and I’m a size 12 normally so my seamstress made the back a corset and it turned out perfect!

My dress was a size 14 and I’m a size 4! My seamstress is able to get it done in time for my wedding in May, and I bought it in January! I have my first fitting in March so she’s really been able to work her magic for me! Definitely not impossible you just have to find the right seamstress for sure.

I took a dress from a size 12 to a size 6. Not a wedding gown but it was a formal gown. It still looked amazing and was well fitted.

The bridal shop can only take the dress in two sizes so they said they couldn’t help me.
It’s an off the shoulder dress and that seems to be the issue. It sounds like the dress will have to be almost entirely reconstructed.
I’ve got a meeting with a seamstress tomorrow, but just trying to prepare myself on if it’s possible/ how much $$ I’m looking at spending on alterations.

I chose an A-Line dress and was told they can take it in 5 sizes and let it out 1. I’m not sure if that’s because of the style or if that’s the norm

My bust was a size 14 and my hips were a 4. I had to order a size 14 to fit my bust and then I ended up losing weight from stress after ordering. My seamstress was able to make my dress fit me with no problems.

I’m not sure of the cost but my sisters SIL bought a floor model that was a size 12 and the seamstress took it down to a size 2. Her dress was an A-line dress. This was the same seamstress that did my sister dress, while she didn’t have to get it resized she did add cups, removed an inch off the bottom and added a bustle and it came to under $100.

This will be the same seamstress I’ll be using for my dress, she’s amazing and decently priced. She’s made her own business doing this & she does a lot of pageant, prom, weddings etc. if you’re around Lebanon, PA area I can give you her info.
