Has anyone done a table side ceremony?

Kim, on April 30, 2018 at 11:59 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 18
So my FH and I want a very quick (like 5 minute) ceremony so we can jump right into the celebrations! Our reception dinner has farm style tables laid out like the picture. What we’re planning on doing is walking down the aisle between the dinner tables and have the ceremony right at front. All chairs would be facing one direction when guests arrive and guests would sit in their respective dinner seats for the ceremony.

Has anyone done table side like this before? If so, how did it go? Would you do it again?

I've been to a wedding where guests sat at their dinner tables for the ceremony. They were round tables scattered around the room, but it worked fine. I see no reason why your arrangement wouldn't work, especially with a really short ceremony.

I’m going to do this as well! We’re having a short ceremony then we’re going to jump right into the reception. It’s all in one room and there’s no need to flip it. We are just renting tables and chairs and having everyone seated at the same place during the ceremony and reception.

Great! Any issues that you recall with guests having to turn their own chairs around? That’s really my only concern so far.

I don't remember any issues. A few people turned the chair to the table before the ceremony so they could talk with their tablemates then turned the chair back toward the front for the ceremony, but I don't think that caused any problems. As for turning the chairs after the ceremony - no issues there either. Frankly, unless they are elderly or disabled, grumbling about turning a chair around is ridiculous.

We are doing this and my venue does it pretty often. I think it will be just fine. We are saving on the need for ceremony chairs so that is a plus lol.

This is our backup plan if we cannot have the ceremony outside. I think it will work just fine.

I've only been to one wedding like this and it was perfectly fine. With your set up and the aisle the way it is, it will be even better!

It should be fine as long as you have a microphone to make sure everyone can hear you

Just following back up. We did it and it was PERFECT! I'll upload a photo so everyone can see how it turned out! I heard from so many people that it was so convenient and made the flow of the event seamless. The only thing if you are considering it is to ensure there's enough space for the chairs to all face forward and for everyone to stand - this means more room between the tables than expected.
