Has anyone bought a dress that they tried on?

Laura, on May 24, 2020 at 10:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

*That they haven't tried on... lol! Sorry, ladies, I'm tired tonight!

I had my dress, had dress regret. Bought "THE DRESS" - however there isn't enough fabric to let it out and my pop-up elopement doesn't leave me enough time to lose weight. I'll wear the one at our vow renewal - it's a Pronovias but only cost $300 and they can't match the lace exactly so panels to let it out aren't an option and neither is the 1k+ price tag for alterations (if they even could match the lace).

So, I went online and bought a dress similar in shape to a formal gown that I love. I know it's ivory and stone and looks amazing - online. How it will look on me is anyone's guess. My advice to others - do not have a nearly 3 year engagement. Too much can change...

Anyone having such issues, or is it just me? I never need to wedding dress shop again - I am burned out on the whole process and have even lost interest in the 'big' family wedding... Advice, suggestions, help?

Sounds a bit stressful..... I hope your new dress works out perfectly for you! My dress is ivory and stone, and I absolutely love the colour. Smiley smile I picked my online, but did have the luxury of a borrow program, so the designer sent the sample for me to try on before I bought a new one. BUT it was perfect. I could have just bought it without trying it.

I’m in California and bought my dress online last May from a bridal salon in another state. Thankfully, my experience worked out wonderfully! I initially saw a pic of dress one day while searching the internet and immediately knew I wanted it. But, then I learned that it was part of a collection from a few seasons ago and the designer was no longer making wedding gowns (great 🤦🏽‍♀️). So I hunted all over the internet to possibly find someone who was selling it. I finally stumbled upon a salon in Atlanta that had the dress (new and unused) in my size. So I contacted the salon and they happily sent me photos and did FaceTime so that I could see it live. My mind was already made up. So I purchased the dress, they shipped it to me and when it arrived that was the first time trying it on. I’ve had it for a year now and still have 4.5 months until the wedding. Completely zero dress regret and I didn’t even bother looking at other dresses because this one was perfect from the first time I saw it 😍😍😍.

    Best wishes with your dress!!!!!

Ooph, what a toughie! I bought my dress kind of sight unseen - David's Bridal had a sample that didn't fit me like at all, so I didn't see the whole dress until mine came in - and I will say it's a bit hard to judge fit from that. I got really lucky. You might try Azazie or another try at home program? Or just go into a David's Bridal and buy one off the rack! My mom did that and found a beautiful gown that was heavily discounted and pretty much fit her perfectly.

I had purchased a dress and had dress regret about a week or so after. I cut my losses and restarted my search. I found my dress off a bridal resale website called Stillwhite. I had never tried it on in stores because no one had it (it's a 2017 Demetrios). I was so nervous but it was too amazing to pass up.

The seller had actually never worn it and the tag was still attached so I lucked out on it being brand new and heavily discounted! I immediately tried it on once I received it and it was absolutely everything I expected it to be and more. I couldn't believe it!

We're currently planning an intimate ceremony and dinner. I came across a venue that seems decently priced (which will be my final attempt at having a big wedding lol). If it doesn't work out then I'll just have to bite the bullet and we'll do a big wedding later down the line.

Yes! Just a few weeks ago after having serious dress regrets over my original dress. However it is an A-line which I’ve tried on similar silhouettes, and it’s off-the-shoulders which I already know I like. I’m just anxious to get it already 😂

It's a sheath with overskirt. We're getting married at a Chapel and my FH will be in a tux. But then we're going to dinner. So, I can remove the skirt prior to dinner - just like he canremove his jacket and such. And then I won't have a train in a restaurant... Lol...

If restaurants are even open... Sigh.

That’s awesome! I love sheath dresses but they look better of ladies with curves. I am more of a potato which is why I went with an A-line. Love detachable overskirts/trains! My dress is scheduled to be finished and delivered the end of June. When will you get yours?

I doubt you are a potato!!! I have curves - it seemed counter intuitive. But I do look better inn straight dresses and clothing!

I don't think there's anything wrong with buying online, but check that they have a lenient return policy so you're covered if it doesn't suit you or the color looks different than it did on the monitor or it just doesn't fit and you don't want to pay for alterations.

I bought my dress pre-owned on StillWhite and LOVE it. I never tried it on or even saw the dress in person before purchasing. I did however do a lot of research on the dress and the manufacturer had a "real brides" section on their website so I was able to see the dress on probably 20+ different people with different body types and coloration so that helped me feel confident in buying the dress sight unseen. I cannot wait to wear it this weekend!

I tried on dresses in the boutique and it was at the start of Covid, I was told I'd be lucky to get my dress (of choice) before the wedding. I went online and bought two dresses almost identical to the one I fell in love with. The first one arrived but the color was not what I envisioned, the second arrived and looked and felt identical to the one I fell in love with at the boutique. The best part was it was 1/4 of the price of the original dress. I think as long as you've tried on the style that you think you want, you will be fine and the dress will look amazing.

Update: Apparently my Pronovias was the wrong size. And due to Covid I paid for it and picked it up. I'm beyond upset. I've been trying other dress to get this one out of my head. I'm just so frustrated. I might be able to shrink into it for my June 2021 wedding... But I'm just.... Ugh!!
