Has anyone asked their wedding guests to get tested for covid before the wedding? How did it go?

Hi Brides!

Our venue "can't guarantee" we'll be able to reschedule our March wedding, even if there is a mask mandate in the Spring. (They are postponing weddings while they are closed of course, but they won't guarantee that they will postpone weddings once they're open.) Our second payment is due in a couple of weeks, so we would like to make a decision now, in light of the trends of COVID cases and deaths which have not been positive.

We are considering canceling the larger wedding we're worried about, having a micro-wedding/ceremony we're actually excited about, and planning a reception when it's easier to plan for the future. It is hard to imagine getting married without my best friends there, though.

I think we could continue with our larger wedding if we knew that our guests were healthy and could relax. We're having a long-weekend destination wedding. We would love to offer our guests an escape to a place where they wouldn't have to worry about masks, where they could enjoy a meal together, and where they could let loose on the dance floor! To do this, all of our guests would have to have a negative test no more than 72 hours before arriving to our destination wedding. (72 hours is what I've seen countries require for destination wedding guests. Our wedding is stateside though.)

Has anyone asked their guests to do this? How did you word it? Were you able to host your reception as planned?

Side note: I don't care if it offends people to take a COVID test. Our circle isn't really an anti-science kind of crowd anyway. Plus, we're in a global pandemic, it's what's best for the rest of the party, and they're free. The only cost is their time and I would think that since our guests are attending a three-day wedding, the gift of their time isn't in question. Smiley smile

TIA California Brides!

It would be pointless. They can go and get the test and then be exposed the next day. Unless there is a way for you to have them test at the door and get immediate results there is no way to guarantee.

That's a good point. We would have to ask that they respect the current Stay at Home Order, and avoid non-essential activities between the time they're tested and the time they would arrive.

That would be your best bet. It would be hard for essential workers.

We have considered this. We also have essential workers in our family though, so it would be difficult. Most people have been following the social distancing guidelines though. I am immunocompromised though so it definitely is something I’m thinking about next year
