Has any taught themselves and their fiancé their first dance?

We’re already at budget and we are not goi my to pay any amount of money for dance lessons. Has anyone choreographed their own first dance? We’re considering YouTubing it and going from there. Just a simple slow dance nothing crazy.

I choreographed for a couple in November, and they had about half of it made up by just looking at youtube vides! I plan on doing the same for my FH and I's first dance. Youtube is the perfect place to get inspo. There are several videos that professional dancers and ballroom dancers post specifically for first dances, so you could even use one of those.

Perfect! We have no rhythm together and I just got embarrassed to dance around him playfully so I think he thinks I don’t know how to dance but I’ve cheered in HS so I can I just don’t haha

Haha I gotcha! I don't like the basic side step first dances, which is why I'm choreographing ours, but I def. plan on using Youtube for inspo!

    Good luck!!

We practice the weekend dance from TikTok lol. We are going to add a bit more to the song. We planned to have this as our first intro. Its pretty easy to come up with a dance routine. YouTube has great step by step guides!

Most couples dance naturally, whether that's a sway or something else. Because you don't want to be so focused on remembering steps that you forget the moment you're in.

That is awesome. If I could I would so do the wedding dance from the office. Not a lot of people would get the reference though.

We had dance lessons and learned a choreographed dance with an instructor, but had we not done that, then I probably would have choreographed it myself and used Youtube Smiley smile

I'm a competitive dancer (ballroom, west coast swing, east coast swing, lindy hop. blues, and country two-step), but my FH has- as he describes it- "about 17 left feet". He keeps saying that I need to teach him how to dance, so once we've figured out our song I'll probably be teaching him some simpler steps of a dance style that works well for the song and then he can lead those moves as he feels he wants to. Based on the song choices we'll most likely do a nightclub two-step. Admittedly, I'll probably end up back-leading a bit just to keep us on time. Though if he thinks an actual routine would work better for him that's fine by me. I just want to dance with him to a song that's special to us.

I was actually listening to some songs to pick for our first dance this morning when one song came on and I imagined a whole dance number for it. I quickly typed up the steps and practiced it in my kitchen and when my fiancé woke up I taught him the dance. My one year of ballroom dancing really paid off. And the steps were nothing crazy. A few turns, double side steps, box step, a dip. It’s definitely possible!

He was trying to walk me through some steps and I felt so silly as our 4 month son was in his chair smiling and giggling at us. Haha
