Has any one worn a ball gown for a beach wedding?

Tjscpa, on April 19, 2015 at 5:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Any brides who have worn a ball gown on the beach?

I am getting married on Maui, and fell in love with an Oleg Cassini ball gown, tulle.

If it gets any sand or water on the very bottom hem, or train, will dry cleaning easily erase the 2 hours spent walking in the sand? I'm not doing trash the dress, and don't plan on getting in more than the very edge of the water.

Has anyone had a regret or problems wearing a ball gown on the beach?

P.S. I'm not worried about being hot in the dress. Just worried about any thing that CAN'T be dry cleaned out.

Thanks for any advice or experience shared!

Two things. First, that dress is the same dress my sister got married in!! How cool! Second, I live in Hawaii and I see people on the beach all the time in their big poofy ball gowns for pictures at least. Not sure if they got married on a beach, but they all get pictures in the sand. Usually there are like two people following them though to hold their dress up. Many of the ones I see like this are having DWs from Japan, but it's very typical for them. I'm pretty sure you can get almost all the sand off after dry cleaning the dress as long as you take it somewhere that knows how to do wedding dresses.

Also you said you don't plan to get more than just the edge of the water. Waves can change very quickly. You think it'll just come up maybe an inch, then a bigger wave comes along and all of a sudden the water is up to your knees. So be careful, I'd completely just avoid the water.

How cool! It is a gorgeous dress. Smiley smile

Thanks so much for the advice! I think I should just relax and if it gets dirty, then so what? I know I want to wear that dress so just go with the flow, lol.

I would think that as long as you are on dry sand, you should be able to shake out enough sand to enjoy the reception. I agree that I would definitely avoid the water and wet sand.

Def wear wedges if you can, or flats, and consider hemming it up so it doesnt drag so much

    Two things:

1 - I would be concerned with the weight of the dress if it did get wet. Also, I would worry about the drying time so you're not dragging a wet dress onto a dance floor.

2 - I agree with @Happy In Hawaii. Never turn your back on the water.

Oh one more thing, if you do need it hemmed, expect to pay quite a bit. The designs at the bottom of the dress might be hard to handle if you need a lot hemmed off the bottom. Luckily when my sister wore it, she just wore tall heels so she didn't have to have them move the lace appliqués on the bottom, but if you're going barefoot in the sand and aren't already pretty tall (like 5'8 or 5'9) then you might be spending quite a bit.

Thanks everyone. Btw, there's no reception, so no dancing. Just ceremony and photos.
