Has any one ever dyed their veil or tulle??

Hayley, on November 6, 2014 at 6:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

So I bought some white bridal tulle to diy a veil. Now my issue is that the tulle is white and my dress is an off white. And even more so because I bought it off the rack.

So has anyone tries to darken their tulle using tea bags or other methods ??

I've done tea dying a lot of times! But never on a wedding item, but it could work and it would be a softer color than like a Rit dye.

Use a Rooibos tea for an off white.

I would be scared of inconsistent color patterns with tea, or like areas with a higher saturation. Am I wrong on this?

Is your dress diamond white? Or ivory?

Yes. Dyed a tulle wedding veil with tea bags in a sink of water. Worked like a charm. The color was even. Just check frequently to see if the color is right. When it is, take it out.

    How thrifty!

I'd be scared to try this on the veil I purchased because I spent a good chunk of money on it. Haha.

I originally wanted to buy extra tulle, dye it blue and have it attached underneath my dress. I ended up deciding against it. I just don't think it would look right with my dress and I'd be too afraid that the color would somehow transfer.

I dyed my veil.... I tested a few different tea's on scrap tulle to make sure the color matched my dress. Once I found the tea it was easy to dye.

Thanks everyone. I will be experimenting with tulle scraps today. I will let you all know what the outcome is. I think I will experiment with different types of teas.

@Happily Ever Harris, how long do you keep the fabric in the tea??
