Harpist needed

Michelle, on January 21, 2017 at 12:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hey Ladies, I am looking to hire a harpist to play for my ceremony and cocktail hour (about 2 hours total). I have one harpist that wants to charge me $500 - seems a little high to me. How much do harpists typically charge? Any recommendations? Thanks!

There's also gents on this website..not just ladies. Just keep that in mind for future posts.

I can't help specifically with your question, but try looking around at other harpists and what they charge. Then compare the prices.

Because fees and the cost of things vary so much from town to town, state to state..etc there's not really a set answer on this.

A harpist in NYC might charge $200/hr vs a harpist in bum-fuck nowhere may charge $50/hr

I'm paying $450 for one hour. They are expensive. I suggest using a violin as they tend to be much cheaper,

Is there a university near you? I hired my ceremony musician through the university. I ended up with a solo pianist with a doctorate in piano performance for half what the "wedding" pianists were charging.

$500 seems about right to me. If you want specific music at any point, they may have to find and learn it (several hours' work), for starters. Two hours is a lot of music as well - even if you don't have specific requests, they will still need to make sure they have enough music to get to the end of cocktail hour without repeating anything. Plus harps are heavy, awkward, delicate and expensive so travelling with them is not the easiest thing to do (I manage logistics for an orchestra and moving harps is a complete pain).

Also, harps aren't the most common of instruments - there may not be any other players in your area unless you're in a major city, to be honest.

That seems right do me. I'm not a harpist expert, though.

    That's about right.

And this is why the vendor tab exists.
