Happy Pride!

Lil Bug, on June 4, 2019 at 4:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hello and happy pride month to all LGBT weddingwire couples! How's your planning going? Have you had any issues with vendors/guests/family/etc. because of your sexual orientation or gender identity? Vent away! I've been getting frustrated with coworkers and family members totally erasing my bisexuality because I'm engaged to a cis straight man.

I’ve had a pretty easy go at it so far! The most annoying thing I have encountered is that so much wedding related has Mr. and Mrs. and the heels/mustache things. A lot of wedding party decor is just super heteronormative. I have never seen gay wedding party things in person, so I’m going to have to order some online. At least we have the internet now a days! It just bums me out that I won’t be able to give things a quality check before I buy them.

I agree...a lot of stuff is really straight. I'm Bi and my fiance is a straight man too. I have a big gay tattoo that will be nicely shown off by wearing a short (just below knee) wedding dress. Otherwise I've been purposely choosing vendors that have done or do LGBT+ wedding stuff. My In Laws definitely do not like that I'm Bi but I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not just to make them comfortable!

I'm having the opposite erasure marrying a woman. We've had to remind a few friends that I am still bisexual but I found the one just like they did. Finding a Christian officiant for our elopement ceremony was difficult but luckily I know someone who is also in the community and was thrilled to marry us. We were really nervous about bakeries but found one that was adamant about making us feel welcome. The bridal shops I went to never batted an eye but she feels uncomfortable going to look for suits because they're all "for men". Overall I feel like we're pretty lucky but we do live in a pretty metropolitan area that is becoming known for it's pridefest.
