Happily Ever After Party

Jessica, on November 12, 2023 at 7:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 1

Hello All! I need a little help organizing a timeline for our "Happily Ever After Party". I am getting married in an intimate ceremony in February BUT, we are throwing a party in May for friends and family to celebrate. The party will be at Huber’s Family farm and Restaurant in one of there barns and I'd like to include reception elements: themed dances, cake cutting. It will be open bar and buffet style country foods. We'll have a DJ and dance floor. The party starts at 6pm till 11.

I need help on timeline. When should I let guest eat. Our dance, father/daughter dance. I don’t know if my fiancé will want to do mother/son dance since this is his second wedding. Shoes game and cake cutting.

Thank you for the help!

Personally, the most important thing to me would be feeding everyone, so I would say dinner at either 6:30 or 7. If you're having appetizers, then you can push it toward 7 and have a cocktail hour. If you're not doing appetizers, then 6:30. That way, people have a little bit of time to get in, find their tables, and mingle before dinner starts. Depending on how ... wordy ... your toast-givers are, you might want to strategically plan the toasts for times when people are eating, if you think the toasts might be long. Otherwise, it can move around depending on what you think is important, but I would try to space things out to keep it interesting. Serving cake is apparently the signal that it's acceptable to leave, so 8 or 8:30 would be my suggestion for cake, especially if you have a mixed age crowd. If you're planning to do sunset pictures outside, you'll want to factor that into your timeline as well.
