Handwritten Place Cards?

FutureMrsHaven, on July 31, 2018 at 1:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
Question - do you think it’s completely tacky/cheap looking to hand write our place cards? Originally I was going to order them from minted and have them printed but we have so many additional costs adding up that I can’t really afford them now. We can’t print them at home because we don’t have a printer and to be honest, I’m not that good at that stuff anyway! My handwriting isn’t terrible but it’s not the best.. I just don’t want them to look cheap. Do you think I’m better off biting the bullet and having them printed?

I wrote ours out. Most of the weddings we’ve attended they’ve been handwritten and I’ve never thought anything of it.

I wouldn't think anything of it if I attentend a wedding with handwritten placards. Seems more personal anyway! If you really dont like the idea of it, see if you can print at a friends house or you can print at target for not too much. It will still be cheaper than ordering them.

We're in the same boat! I'll admit I was pretty thrilled when I realized I could order blank ones from Amazon for like $12. Added bonus is that I don't have to stress over the last minute guest changes and sweat the delivery time. 99.98% sure my guests will neither notice nor care, and if there's ONE that does...just bring me more drink.

I'll get a fancy schmancy silver Sharpie and practice writing like a big girl before I do them.

I think as long as you have decent handwriting so it is legible then this is fine. It has that personal touch.

Are you doing individual seats or just table numbers? We are having our escort cards printed on Minted but we are doing one couple/family per card to tell them the table number so overall it'll cost $50 for the 80 cards I need printed.

I can still wait and change tables last minute because I'm only having the names printed, I can write the table numbers myself when we get closer.

I hate my handwriting and when I hand wrote our save the date envelopes I thew so many away because I messed up. The extra cost for the escort cards was worth my piece of mind, one less DIY, and I know they will come out right the first time rather than me waste money on extra cards since I know I'll mess up. I guess its a little less than a $40 difference which was worth it to me.

I don't think handwritten looks tacky, but printed definitely looks cleaner and a little more formal in my opinion.

I'm handwriting mine too! Bought a blank sent of 100 off Amazon and I'll be painting it to match my wedding colors. Total cost is less than $20, which helps when you're on a budget.

I’m writing ours! They may not be perfect but I felt like this was an area to cut costs. I also have been writing the names in pencil, going over them in the black marker, and then erasing the pencil after the marker dries with a white eraser I got from Michaels.

I think handwritten cards are a nice touch. I printed ours on our home printer to save money, but would have handwritten them if that wasn't an option. I was surprised at how much professionally printed ones cost.

For our wedding we purchased a template on etsy and had them printed on a local printing company. For the escort cards, menus, and welcome cards (for welcome bags), it was about $60 for everything.

Just throwing an idea, but I don't think there is anything wrong with writing them by hand.

I’d say go for it with the handwritten cards. I personally will be doing handwritten cards, table numbers, invitations and seating chart sign in modern calligraphy.

Mine are hand written. I think as long as they can read them, they’re fine!

I think handwritten is totally fine! But if you do decide that you want to print them, just FYI we bought some place card at Kinko’s that had a template for Windows, filled out the template with all the guest names and table numbers on our computer and then we went to it Kinko’s and they printed them for us for VERY cheap. I think my husband had to email them the filled out template, he actually took care of it so I don’t exactly what he did but it seemed pretty easy. I forgot exactly how much it cost, but I think it was only like a few bucks!

I plan to handwrite mine in cursive. I think they will look fine. Just use a ruler or straight edge to help things stay in line.

Our venue provided us with individual place cards. I debated figuring out how to setup our printer to print on them, but ultimately decided it really wasn't worth the time/effort.

I have awful handwriting, so my Mom wrote them out for us. They looked great!

    Not at all!

Girl, Minted is great, but not if you're on a budget! I was going to order favor tags and holy moly I could not believe how much they were charging!

Handwritten is more traditional. In fact until fairly recently printed escort cards were considered a sign of laziness.
