Handicap Accessible Beach

Hannah, on August 25, 2019 at 8:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
60 days until our beach wedding! Unfortunately fiancés grandfather took a nasty fall this weekend and is going to have a hard time walking in the sand. Future MIL suggested renting a carpet to put over the sand (which to me sounds horribly ugly & ineffective). Any suggestions to make it more handicap accessible for a realistic price?

Maybe grab some 1/4 inch plywood from the hardware store? You could put it down on the end of the seats (opposite the aisle unless you'd like to walk on it) and use modge-podge (or something similar) to glue a thin layer of sand to the top to so it looks more natural but also has some extra support and sturdiness to it to make it more accessible to navigate?

Check with your venue to see if they have suggestions, or even something on hand.

    Something like this

They make beach wheelchairs that have giant wheels for going through the sand. They’re not very discreet or pretty, but they are safe and do the job well. You should be able to find somewhere to rent one from for the day.

One of our beaches here has a beach accessible wheelchair. Maybe call and see if yours also has one you could use? Or see if you can rent or borrow one?
