Handheld candle exit vs. sparkler exit

Erin, on October 12, 2018 at 3:20 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Has anyone on here done a handheld candlelight exit? If so, how did it go? My wedding is in December, and I’m thinking, instead of doing a sparkler exit outside, I’d have people hold small candles with wax drip protectors outside instead. I was thinking they’d provide light for photos (it will be dark when we leave) and feel romantic like sparklers, but would feel less cliched and more cozy-wintertime-y.

The potential downsides are that they might not provide as much light as sparklers would, or that the wind could blow them out....

Any advice from people who have done it? Or alternatives?

I’m always a fan of the sparklers.

I’d double check with your photographer & see what they would recommend.

Hi Erin! I think that a candle-lit send off is so romantic! It would make for some beautiful photos and it not as common as sparklers! My only concern is that the candles may blow out as your run past for your send-off or go out before you even leave! Besides this concern, I think it's a great idea!

Some other amazing options for a December wedding send-off are tinsel or sprinkles!

I love the candle lit send off idea it sounds so romantic!!

We will be doing a sparkler "send off", only for pictures and the video, because we plan on staying longer at the venue to party!

As long as they have the wax drip protectors, I think it's a great idea! I was a guest at a wedding last month where they did a candle exit without protectors and it took so long for all 100+ people to light the candles that a few of got burned by wax drips, including the flower girl. It looked really pretty though and provided a lot of light. I would definitely suggest having several lighters around and then people can use their flame to light other candles as well.

We had a Christmas wedding and did a reverse unity candle ceremony where we lit the unity candle and then started the chain of lighting our guests' candles. A cello played O Holy Night during this and it was so beautiful.

I love that idea. It feels so much more romantic than sparklers!

Sparklers would look better in pics and would most likely create a higher energy than handheld candles
