Handfasting

Laura, on March 5, 2020 at 8:18 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4

Has anyone ever Incorporated hand-fasting into their ceremony before? My FH didn't like the idea of sand for a unity ceremony and i really like the idea of doing hand-fasting. You know "tying the knot". He absolutely loves the idea of it. If you have done it how many ropes did you use? Did you have the officiant tie them for you or did you have a family member or close friend do it for you? I was thinking of having both my niece and nephew do it but wasn't sure how to incorporate both of them into it? I still have plenty of time to figure it all out a year and a half but just tying to figure it all out ahead of time so i'm not rushing and stressing when i don't have to.

I’ve had several friends do so and we are planning to have hand fasting at our ceremony as well. Typically it’s one long cord. You can find scripts and instructions on Google or Pinterest 😊

We are planning on doing this! I saw my cousin do it last summer and I loved it! I had a long piece of ribbon customised with a phrase on it and that's what we are going to use. Theres a poem we found on Pinterest that we will have read

So it’s like a unity braid? If so, we are doing that as well. I’m buying a board off of Etsy with our names and date on it and also the verse from Ecclesiastes about the cord of three strands is not easily broken. I’m definitely looking forward to it!

This is different from a unity braid, and comes from Celtic/pagan traditions. Search it on Pinterest - it’s hard to explain 😊
