Handfasting Short and Sweet Scripts

Stephanie, on February 21, 2013 at 4:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

My FH and I not overly religious people. When we talk about our wedding ceremony we want something that is short and sweet, yet meaningful, without any major religious overtones. I personally have never been a fan of a unity candle or sand ceremony, but we want to do something that symbolizes our unity and the start of our new life together.

I recently came across the Handfasting and have totally fallen in love with this idea. I found a long version of a handfasting script that I thought really encompassed the idea of marriage and its meaning. The only problem with it is I feel it is a little long.

Has any one used a handfasting in their ceremony and used a shorter version of it? I have seen alot of traditional versions have 6 chords, but have read that the ceremony can be done with 4, however, finding a script for 4 seems to be hard to find.

Any help or suggestions are welcome!

Not to familiar with the handfasting ritural. But it is really unique. This is the only thing I could find.

While we are not doing a traditional handfasting ceremony with the cords, as part of the service we are holding hands while our minister reads "these are the hands..." readings. We are using similar to those on the site below as well as a couple others that we added to be specific to our situation.

If you wish to use only four, you could always combine two
