Handfasting cords

Heather, on August 29, 2019 at 11:02 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9
We are doing a handfasting ceremony but I am not sure where or what to use for the cords. We are changing it up a bit and having our parents each pick a color and read the blessing associated with the color. I need ideas of what to use for the cords please.

I don’t have any suggestions for you, but I wanted to say how I love the idea! My friend did this a few years ago, and it was really neat to watch. It’s such a unique touch to your wedding!

Are you looking for actual cords or ribbons? I bought mine from Etsy. I picked colors to match our wedding and the symbolism they bring and had charms added. Another bride on here wanted an actual cord and found something in the fabric district of her town.

Thank you! It is something my fiance wanted to do, and this way we get to involve our parents and their wishes for our future in the ceremony. I can't wait to hear what they have to say!

That is where I am hitting a wall. I am not sure if we should just get ribbons in the colors and braid them into cords or order something off of etsy...? We will have the white and then 4 other colors, one chosen by each of our parents.

I bought ours off of Etsy in our wedding colors. They have some beautiful ones on there.

There are plenty of youtube videos that will show you have to make one of your own if that is something that appeals to you.

I just made mine today and used a really thick yarn (braided 3 pieces together). Then we picked out a few charms to add to the end. It was fun to pick out colors and braid it as a couple. Also super inexpensive ($15 total)!

I am doing this ceremony as well, we found a lovely cord of 3 ribbons with some Celtic charms on Amazon that matched our wedding colors perfectly! I think Etsy would be a good place to check if you want to customize it at all. I just searched for "handfasting cord".

I love this idea! I'm planning on doing a handfasting ceremony as part of my wedding next fall.

I looked at Etsy too, but the prices were a bit outrageous! If you like the weight of cords and you want specific colors without paying an arm and a leg, you could always go through a college/high school honor cords website ( like this one ). They're much cheaper, you can get the colors you want a bit easier, and the length will be perfect!

    Hope this helps Smiley laugh
