Handfasting cords

Rebecca, on July 16, 2019 at 2:25 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 5
So our officiant is balancing FH's Catholicism with my agnostic/pagan outlook, and this includes a handfasting.
I've always wanted one, but I've also always been really vague about what that meant, simply that we would have cords/say something.

We're getting to crunch time, and I'd appreciate some help. Any good links for handfastings? Videos?

Thanks!

We had a handfasting in our wedding. I’ll leave a link but you could google ideas of handfasting vows and different kinds of knots to do. Our officiant (an old friend of mine) knew all about it already but I didn’t and had to pick up two more cords last minute. Most knots need two or three cords. Another thing my friend mentioned was wrapping the tied cords afterwards into a rose and putting it in a display case. I’ll be doing that when we get back. Good luck!

We are doing a handfasting. Our officiant gave us 2 different versions to choose from. We chose the 6 colored cord one. We have 6 cords, each a different color. Each color represents something different that we will bring to the marriage. Our officiant is going to say what each cord means while someone drapes the cords over our hands. Once all cords are draped, they get tied (easy YouTube search, there are quite a few videos on it), we will say our vows to wach other and then the cords get taken off.

Oooo yay we’re doing a handfasting too! Does your officiant have any experience with handfastings? From my understanding they should be able to find a little information to go off of. I’ve had a hard time finding information as well.

Hey Rebecca!! Handfasting is a beautiful ritual to include in your ceremony. It can occur at any stage during your ceremony, but it would usually be done at the same time as your vows.

I'm doing a handfasting in mine. The lady I ordered mine from has a shop on Etsy. Check our her website though:

FH is agnostic and I'm Pagan/borderline agnostic. We are having 2 officiants, both of which are our best friends. One is of the Lutheran faith to satisfy the Christian family/attendants and the other is a Pagan Priestess who is performing the more Pagan aspects of our ceremony. She and I are going to get together and hash out the details. It's going to be considered "Pagan-lite" as to not scare the muggles away ;-)
