Hand fasting issues...

Erika, on September 21, 2016 at 7:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

FH and i are both pagan and wanted to Incorporate hand fasting into the wedding and ive found a ceremony i love. His family could care less about it but my side of the family is christian and super religious. I want to have the ceremony i want but i also dont want to offend my family or make them uncomfortable.

My family is Catholic and liked our hand fasting ceremony. Have you talked to them and shown them what a hand fasting ceremony entails? It isn't offensive usually.

I didn't really tell my family what's happening in the ceremony. We have beginning and ending celtic/irish prayers, no other mention of religion, with handfasting otherwise. Don't worry about it, don't tell them as it's inviting their opinion into the conversation.

Both of our families are Catholic and we're doing a handfasting. It won't be a big deal

I don't think anyone will be offended.

Handfasting isn't only "pagan"- it's actually fairly standard in my Episcopal diocese, and I feel like it's much more "mainstream" in general these days. Don't worry!

I'm doing a handfasting and decided on a very intimate ceremony for the reason I don't want a lot of icky feeling from the hyper Christian

Handfasting actually has Celtics roots. I don't think it would be offensive at all

I do handfastings for couples who request it.

It's inoffensive, and unless someone announces "it's pagan!" no one will think anything of it. In fact, all of my ceremonies have no prayers, and no one, unless they are extremely religious, misses the fact that there are no prayers.

    It's all good.
