Hand cancelling

Jen, on December 10, 2019 at 6:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Don’t believe the hype about hand cancelling! I was so excited to send out my invites I asked to have them hand cancelled and next thing I know the lady at the post office is taking a huge red stamp to the front not caring at all they look like crap!!! I thought it was just a tiny stamp across the actual stamp but nope. It was a huge red stamp across the side that said non-machinable and then another ugly crooked stamp on the actual stamp. I’m just more upset because I took the time to make sure they looked perfect and they look terrible.

Sorry you went through this! I sent all ours to Bridal Veil, OR for hand canceling. They ended up with a small, appropriate stamp on them.

I've never heard of this! What would be the benefit of hand cancelling?

    Sorry this happened to you!!

Hand cancelling helps head off rips and tears from sending the invitations through the usual machines for stamping. I think if you use wax seals on the outside you might have to take the invites to a post office that will do the hand cancel? Not all post offices will even offer the hand cancelling. I was lucky that I went to my usual post office during a lull, they let me use the stamp and hand cancel each invite. 😂😁

I know it stinks Smiley sad I have read on many forums to hand cancel what this does it makes it so your invites don’t go through the machines and get dirty and black ink all over them. So a lot of people hand cancel them and it’s supposed to I thought just have one little stamp on it preventing all these other marks. I wish I just mailed them the regular way :/

Bright side… It’s just the protective outer envelope that gets thrown away anyway. Your invitation is the part that matters.

I felt the same way. I think for us we know what went in the process of our invitation so we feel the way that we do. Everyone else receiving the invitation will not pay any mind to the placement of the hand canceled stamp. They'll just remember the actual invitation which of course is the most beautiful invitation they've ever seen. I didn't hand cancel my thank you cards after the wedding. I really didn't see a point in it. We live and we learn! Congratulations!!

I’m so sorry this happened to you . When I went to the post office, they lady asked how I felt about the red . The red means it won’t go through the machine. If you have delicate things or a fragile invitation suite, non machine is right for you. I begged to let them allow me to hand cancel my own and stand to the side of the counter so they could watch.

I know, I was surprised they let me do it. I’ve been going there for over 10 years and one of the guys knew I was getting married since I’d sent save the dates and shower thank you cards, so I think he was just feeling nice and doing me a quasi favor (while absolving them from having to do the stamping themselves 😂).

Perhaps if you try again for any reason, bring a peace offering? Some “extra” cookies or donuts “from a work event” and offer to do the stamping for them if they let you borrow the stamper? 🍀
