Halter Pain

Jessica, on August 20, 2019 at 10:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
So I finally got my alterations on my halter top dress. I had the issue with not being able to wear a bra. I’ve got a large chest so I didn’t think braless would be an option. My seamstress pinned up the straps and it worked out. I was supported enough to go braless and would just need some double sided tape to keep it in place on my chest....Today I went to pick it up and tried it on. The neck strep is painful. Like I don’t know that I’ll be able to last the entire long day i this dress anymore. I told the seamstress, but she said if it’s loosened at all then it won’t sit flush with my chest and everyone will see my boobs basically. Sure enough she unclasped the strap and BAM peep show. I’m so stressed I could cry. My wedding is exactly one month away. I don’t have time or money for a new dress and I’m just at a loss. Anyone out there run into this issue and how did you address it?

Can the strap be loosened and cups be added for support and to take up some of the room when the stap is loosened? I'm a DDD, and have a halter dress, too. We were able to add cups and between that and the halter, I have enough support without flashing everyone.

So initially I had asked to put cups in. We slid them in and it really didn’t do anything besides give a weird shape. When the dress is fitted I don’t really need a bra, and bought that brassybra just in case.

when i went for my first fitting she said she would tighten the straps a bit and put darts in the straps to keep it flush to my chest. When I went to pick it up yesterday the strap was about an inch shorter/tighter than we discussed and no darts. So it’s flush to my chest but now it’s pulling my neck/shoulders horribly. She said if she loosens the strap there’s no way to keep it tight to my chest or adjust the size of the cups....but I find that hard to believe. I made an appointment elsewhere for tomorrow so hopefully there’s something that can be done...otherwise I have exactly one month to buy and alter a dress 🤦🏻‍♀️

They make bras with halter straps, so I don't know why you would need to go without a bra, unless you just wanted to. It sounds like this seamstress convinced you she knew what she was doing, but didn't take into consideration your comfort, which is ridiculous.

I would go to your new appointment, and see what can be done. But keep a halter bra in mind, because that could be the solution right there.

My dress is a deep plunge v neck so I haven’t been able to find a bra that fits my boobs AND doesn’t show in the front. :/

If it wasn’t altered to what you agreed on, go back and have her fix it ASAP. You can buy either a strapless or halter bra, just go to a plus size store like Lane Bryant or Torrid. They have a lot of options and sizes! Good luck!

i knew a bride who had pretty big boobs and she also bought a halter dress. the straps appeared to be a bit short and were non adjustable. when she tried on the dress, she was saying how the straps are causing too much pressure on the back of the neck after a few minutes of trying it on. eventually, the straps gave way and broke apart, leaving her boobs exposed. she was really upset and ended up wearing a sleeveless dress at her wedding.
