Halloween Surprise at Wedding.... Any Ideas?

HollyKnoxville, on February 10, 2011 at 10:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hey ladies, so my bridal party and FH know almost every detail of my wedding. I was hoping to think up some kind of surprise I could throw together (without them knowing) for the reception. Everyone knows me as the Halloween Girl (FH purposed on Halloween with a jack-o-lantern) and most are surprised I'm not having a Halloween theme (I'm just doing a fall theme).

SO, do you ladies have any ideas of some sort of thing I could do at the reception? The only thing I can come up with would be to have a Halloween themed candy bar/buffet (decorated with jack-o-lanterns, caldrons, etc.). Just wondering if anyone else had and fun ideas?? Maybe I could have a fun Halloween music playlist to rock? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Learn "Thriller" and have you and your wedding party dance to it.

    Apple Cocktails

Ask your caterer to create a signature drink for your cocktail hour using apples -- a quintessential fall ingredient. Get rum-apple cider in sleek black mugs topped with whipped cream or go for green apple martinis in black martini glasses and garnished with fresh apple slices.

    Pumpkin-Infused Menu

Pumpkin-ize your menu. Try mini pumpkin tarts as appetizers and go for pumpkin bread or even pumpkin butter for the dinner rolls. Consider having salads with roasted pumpkin seeds. For dessert, ask your caterer to set up a table topped with mini pumpkin cheesecake bites.

    Costume Photo Backdrop

Instead of a photo booth, enlist a friend to take pictures of your guests on a spooky photo set at your reception. Use a velvety curtain for the backdrop and, if resources allow, deck out the set with old furniture and fake spider webs. Include easy-to-wear props for your guests like hats, gloves, and boas.

You could do a 'trick or treat' style receiving line (or reverse receiving line). Whenever you are going to personally greet your guests you could have a candy bag with treats/favors inside. You could tell your guests 'trick or treat' but you'd give out the treats!

Theme song from "The Addams Family." Bach’s "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" Bolcom's "Graceful Ghost Rag" and Liszt's "Mephisto Waltz"

signature drinks are Pumpkin Martinis, Bloody Marys, and Black Cats.

Instead of having table numbers, each can feature a card that includes a room number and hotel from all over the United States. Below the room number and hotel, a true haunted story about the room!

I LOVE Hallowe'en.. actually, people are surprised that I'm not having a Hallowe'enie wedding (I'm born on Hallowe'en, so I don't want my wedding date and birthdate to be the same hehe)

anyways... I like the candy table idea, with hallowe'en candy, and trick or treat bags...

what about coming in to the reception to spooky music, and green fog? then break out into Thriller? it would take some time to learn the dance, but it would be AWESOME!!

    have a blast!!

Heck yes! I'm loving it : ) Everyone thought I'd have a Halloween wedding, but I thought it would be too campy and not feel enough like a wedding... that's why I wanted to throw some Halloween spice into the reception since it's more laid back.

    Holly,

Ask your DJ to play an all-Halloween dance set, starting with Ghost Busters and then songs with devils, ghosts, hell, or witches in the lyrics.

What are your centerpieces? Cna you use small pumpkins and squashes- both fall and tie in the Halloween thing.

I'd do a Halloween dance set as well- maybe even walk down the aisle to something silly, or exit to something silly.

@ Meghan B. Our centerpieces are fall themed already(pic below). Maybe I could all small pumpkins around them... So far, I'm definitely going to try to plan a silly dance : )

A walk down the aisle is a great idea. I was thinking "Monster Mash" or something along those lines. Also, how about candy apples with the cake afterwards? Or maybe have the favors set out in small, non-oppressive "goodie bags" for trick-or-treating?

How many halloween songs are there? You can name each table with a halloween song (or realted item) and if you're doing buffet, you can have your DJ play the tune for the next table to go to the buffet line. Or just names your tables like:

    Jack-o-lantern

    Withes Brew

    Trick

    Treat

    Ghoul

    Goblin

    etc..

Disappear and come back dressed as a pregnant nun and tell em you're pregnant? That would definitely be a surprise!
