Haleakala Sunrise Tour (anyone been on it?)

Liz, on October 14, 2019 at 12:28 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 6

Hello! My husbands work has a discount for the sunrise tour with Polynesian Tours. I was wondering if anyone has ever taken this tour and what should I expect. I know there is an early pick up around 3am and that the view point is very high and it will be cold. I am planning on taking one of my insulated (puffer) jackets. I also heard because of the altitude people can sometimes feel lightheaded or sick. Has anyone experienced this?

Definitely the jacket but dress in layers. You will be warm by the time the tour ends. Make sure you bring water or Gatorade and hydrate well. Get some rest the night before. Bring a camera...the views are breathtaking. I didn’t feel lightheaded but I hydrated very well as advised by a friend. I would also recommend granola bars or fruit and some chewing gum or hard candy.

Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely yes to the layers. I was debating if I should wear a thick long sleeve and puffy jacket but I figured since we would be back down around 11ish it would be warmer. The tour offers us drinks and breakfast but I'll probably bring my own water just in case and a few snacks.

We are actually going to a luau the night before lol! But I'm hoping since doors open at 4:30 that it won't last too long. I think as long as I am back in my room and ready to sleep before 10 I should be fine. I'll just need coffee the morning of Smiley laugh

Alright I will Smiley smile. I saw with Skyline tours they provide you with jackets and gloves. But the one my husband booked with his work discount doesn't seem to include it. For me it isn't a big deal since I have a light weight puffer jacket and I usually wear an XS or can fit a kids L so I feel like they might just have unisex sized jackets so it'll be better to bring my own lol. Plus I am bringing a check in luggage with me Smiley laugh

No. Its something on my bucketlist and I think anywhere in Hawaii would be a great place to do that. But we didn't find time in our schedule. Also my hubby wanted to book Road to Hana tour since he doesn't want to drive that road (I heard its very wind-ey and a bit dangerous). So we will have to go back again some day. Maybe during our next Maui trip we will do zip lining too Smiley smile.
