Hairstyle for Cathedral veil

Elizabethschuzer, on June 21, 2017 at 2:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So I have a 10+ft cathedral veil a I have long thinner hair that I usually curl to make fluffier and fuller. Initially, I thought wearing me hair down looked best.. however, with the length/weight of the veil, I'm pretty sure that hair down won't work. I want a style that can properly secure the veil but will still look good when I take the veil off for the reception. I think I want the veil near the middle of the top of my head like the photo, not trailing behind secured to a bun. Has anyone with a long veil found a hairstyle that works for this? The photo is from a test shoot but the comb was constantly slipping since I didn't do my hair up for the shoot. Any ideas?? Please help!

I wanted a downdo with my veil, but the hair stylist said that for a true downdo, she'd have to backcomb my hair into some kind of weird nest in the back to give a foundation for the veil. Sounded kind of ugly to me, so now I'm doing a half up half down.

ETA: Like you I wanted to wear it high on my head - there's gotta be some magic way though, because I see brides with long mantilla veils do that all the time, and it always looks like the veil is just sitting on their heads with no comb whatsoever. Maybe just a whole bunch of pins?!

Jenny do you have pics of ideas on how you're doing the half updo? I'm having so much trouble finding ideas

Honestly a good hair stylist can make a veil stick with any hairdo. I have a shaved sides pixie cut and I had a cathedral length veil and it stayed perfectly.

With teasing and hairspray anything can happen. Smiley smile

I haven't found a solution to the whole "top of the head thing" yet though. Really curious to see what people would advise. Maybe I should have bought a mantilla veil instead of a gathered comb one =/

I tried to post this link for inspo, but WW doesn't allow me to post plus signs for whatever reason... google "wedding hair ideas for brides who don't want an updo"

    The article is on livingly

I'd go with a half up / half down and curled hair style! You can put the comb for the veil in above the half up hairstyle and easily remove it for the reception!

I wore my hair down , to one side with a fancy comb and a cathedral veil as shown. Everything stayed intact.

ETA - you could put the veil higher than I did, above the "puff".

@MB2MA, that's beautiful. Do you have more pictures? It really is hard to find good inspo for downdos with veils

I wore mine secured at the top of my head. My stylist swept the front if my hair to the side then brushed it back starting where I wanted to wear the veil. She did a little poof (with a little backcombing, but it wasn't a crazy mess by any means. Came right out in the shower). I'm on mobile so sorry these photos are in three posts! This one is my hair in the salon

At the ceremony. I have fine hair too and it didn't slip, even moving around a lot. We sat during the readings, stood for our vows, then served communion and it stayed in place! I did cross cross two Bobby pins over the comb. I think that helped

Took off the veil for the reception and put a headband where the veil was. It hid the little bit of stray hairs that came out when we took the comb out. My hair got a little frizzy in the back, but I think it was fine

I had a cathedral veil, and my hairstyle was down and side swept. It worked just fine. I took it off after the ceremony.

I had a LOT of hair at the time of the wedding (I've since taken six inches off - twice), but I had an updo studded with some sparkly hairpins. It sat at just the right height for me to wear my veil close to the middle of my head, which is sounds like you're looking to do. Now, granted, I wore an elbow-length veil instead of a cathedral, but I feel like this style would have supported the longer one if I'd needed it to.
