Hair/makeup trial struggles

Taylor, on September 14, 2022 at 11:41 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
Is there anyone here who didn’t do a hair and makeup trial? I live 5 hours away from where I’m getting married and it’s not the easiest for me to get there. It’s like super inconvenient for me to try to get there to do a run through with who I booked. How important do you think it is and should I try to make it work? My wedding is in 25 days

Some people did not like the result of their trials. However, if the makeup artist is a true experienced professional. Your desired look should be able to be done without a trial. It will all work out and your day will be great.

I’m not having one. We are having a destination wedding (14 hours away) so a trial is not an option for me. I’m just going to cross my fingers and hope it turns out well! But I’m pretty laid back, so hair and makeup wouldn’t make or break my wedding for me. If hmu is really important to you, I would probably find a way to make the 5 hr trip for a trial. Or, you could try having your hmu done with local stylists to figure out what exactly you like/want, take lots of pictures of it, then send to the artist doing your hmu for your wedding so they can attempt to recreate it.

If it's too much of a lift to do a trial, I don't think it's a huge necessity unless you're really worried about whether it'll turn out how you want or there's something super specific/ difficult that you want. You could also reach out and ask what products they use and try them out on your own to see how your hair/ skin reacts to them.

I'd suggest looking through your HMUA's social media and the gallery on their website (if they have both/ either) to see if they have pictures of styles similar to what you like. You can also comb through Pinterest for pictures of people with similar skin tones, hair colors, eye color, etc. to you to see how different makeup colors look to get an idea of what to ask for on the big day.

Good to know there's someone in the same boat as me! I'm pretty laid back as well and am not doing anything too crazy

With it being that far away, I get not wanting to do one. I will say I did find it very helpful to do it a trial because I was able to get a feel for what the hair and makeup style that I wanted looked like and give them some feedback on things I wanted them to tweak for the actual day. Looking at their pictures is good, but at the end of the day, the same style on one person is not going to look the same on you.

I’d advise making sure enough time is allotted to hair and makeup on the day-of so that if you notice something they did isn’t working for you, then there’s time for them to change/fix it.

I didn’t do a trial. The person who did my hair has done my hair several times. Also, for the makeup, she was referred by a friend. I saw her work on StyleSeat and booked her. I didn’t have time to do a trial and pay for the makeup the day of.
