Hair/Makeup Trial Questions

Dharma81, on October 28, 2015 at 10:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hello ladies! I've been emailing back and forth with my favorite salon to set up all my wedding-related appointments (mani/pedi/massage the day before, hair and makeup day of). I have a few questions that popped into my head regarding the trial appointment that I know you all will have good insight on:

1. Did you have anyone come with you for you hair/makeup trial? I don't have a wedding party, so no bridesmaids, but I know 1 or 2 of my girlfriends would happily come along to give me opinions. Just wondering what the norm is.

2. After your trial, when your makeup/hair is all done up...what did you do after that? I mean, my FH and I live together, so he's going to see me all done up unless I take it all off right away. Not sure if I want him to see my wedding day look ahead of time!

3. How far in advance did you do your trial? I'm thinking I want to do it pretty close to the big day so my hair is the same length and my coloring will be similar.

Thank you so much for any help!

    1. nobody came, i just took pictures as that's what i cared about anyway- how it looked in pictures.

    2. I made my trials for a Saturday and went out looking good. I mean no offense, i don't really care if my husband sees what my up-do looks like at all.

    3. just make sure your tan is similar, i did mine 3 months out but got a spray tan before my trial.

    1) my mom and one of my bridesmaids came. That is totally up to you - for me I wanted my mom literally at everything and my bridesmaid knew exactly what I wanted and helped me communicate it

    2) I wore it all day. Mainly because we wanted to make sure it lasted and nothing fell out. I wasn't concerned with my husband seeing it. I would suggest trying to wear it as long as possible so you can make sure there isn't any parts of your hair that are weak and fall out.

    3) I did mine about 3 weeks before which turned out to be perfect timing.

I know some clever brides who have scheduled their trail on the same day as their engagement pictures or bridal shower - that way you don't waste the awesome look Smiley smile

I think the answer to number 1 depends on how much you trust your opinion. I can be terribly indecisive about these things and so would want my mom there with me (as she is also one of my best friends). Just try to avoid the too many cooks in the kitchen problem.

My stylist actually suggested inviting FH, doing it on a Fri night and letting him bring beer and making it a little party. It's because he doesn't like my hair curled and she wanted him happy, but he said no, he doesn't want to see it. I plan on having girls night after the trial so I can go out looking all hot. ;-) she also suggested 3 weeks out, so that's the plan.

I also scheduled my initial trial on the day of my engagement photos and it worked well and I was done up and ready to go. I went alone and she came to me. I did my initial trial in July and I'm getting married tomorrow. I had to do a second trial as my original gal wasn't going to be able to come morning of wedding. That happened yesterday!

I have mine scheduled 4 weeks before the wedding. I want a little extra time in case I want to go back for a second trial (I'm very unsure about hair/makeup looks). My mom is going to come with me and possibly a bridesmaid.

After my trial I'm just going to go home. I'm having it done after work. I guess I'll just see how it lasts into the evening.

Nobody came with me and that wasn't a problem.

I didn't care if H saw me or not, but my salon didn't set my hair because they wanted to be able to do multiple styles at the trial so it had actually fallen out by the time I got home.

I had my trials really early because I was getting nervous about finding a stylist and MUA and didn't want to book without a trial. So I had mine in January for a July wedding. I still see no problem with this. I did end up having second trials later because life happened to both my original hair stylist and MUA. My second makeup trial was 4 days before the wedding.

I had my trial at my home and it just so happens my grandma was there too.

I've never seen her smile the way, she did when she saw me. I had my appointment

set for the first week in Sept.

I brought my mom with me...mostly just because it was fun and she loves being involved in all the wedding stuff. But it was nice to have her there for any opinions too. I did mine during the week and pretty early in the morning, so FH was at work (we live together as well) and didn't see me right away. I did this for a couple reasons...First, if you do it early in the AM you can (hopefully) wear it all day and see how well the style holds and how long the make up lasts. Second, I did it in the AM and then scheduled a fitting on the same day so I could have a chance to see the whole look at one time. I'd definitely recommend trying to do those 2 things if you can make it work for your schedule. I did take the hair down and make up off before FH got home. My trial was at the beginning of October, so I started pretty early, but I'm getting another pseudo-trial next week too when I go in to have hair and makeup done for my bridal portrait shoot. I don't think there's anything wrong with starting early...you may find you really didn't like the work done and you want to continue looking, so it would be nice to have the time to do that.
