Hair/Makeup Timeline

@brd2be, on November 7, 2017 at 11:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Looking to hear from some brides what their timeline was for hair and makeup, how many stylists, etc? Our ceremony is at 530, we are doing a first look around 345, pics 4-5. We'll need to leave the hotel around 315.

There are a total of 9 of us: me, 6 bridesmaids, MOB and FMIL. MOB and FMIL have short hair so the hair should not take long. I have one hairdresser and one makeup artist coming to the hotel and she mentioned they would bring assistants if needed. I did sent her a text this morning to see what she thinks for timeline and if her and the MUA will bring additional people to help but I am stressing for some reason. I worry about starting too early and having people have to sit around for hours in their hair and makeup. Initially i did not expect both moms wanting to get hair and makeup done so that kind of threw me off a little.

    I have a group of 14 people getting ready: me, 7 bridesmaids, MOB, FMIL and 4 flower girls. Both MOB and FMIL have short hair and the flower girls are just doing hair. My MUA will have a team of five people with her and it will take 4 hours for us to get ready. Some people who are in the first group will be sitting around while the rest of us are getting ready, but not too much we can do about that part. Hope this helps!

    I have the same numbers as you, OP. And the same timeline. I'm asking my MUA and hairstylist to bring two extra women to help get us ready.

    Edit: you're living my life, haha! Neither MOG or MOB wanted to get their hair or makeup done before so this also threw me off. Just ask that they have enough people to accommodate the extras.

    Wow SoontobeMarch- 5 people on your hair/makeup team! That's so many! I can imagine that must cost a lot!

    I am having one hair person and one makeup artist for 7 people (3 bridesmaids, me, MOB, MOG, and sister of groom). 3 have very short hair and if needed can leave after we have to leave for pictures at 3 (ie they can stay and be getting ready because the mothers and sister aren't needed for pictures that early). I am hoping to start at 9:30 and end at 2:30 (and that's with about an hour extra buffer time). My HMUAs said 30 min per person, except 45 for me for makeup and 1 hour for my hair, but some HMUAs take a lot longer, so check with them.

    Also, make a schedule so people know when they need to have their hair or makeup done and stick to it!

    I talked to the girl today and she said they will bring a third person to help and that we should start at 730am to be done by 230pm and give ourselves an hour of buffer in case we run over. All three of them do hair and makeup and they have done a lot of these, so I trust her. But i wonder for the schedule, who should i have go early? I kind of feel bad having someone get their hair and makeup done at 8am when the pictures are not until 4? Is it too early? Do you think i should have the parents go first so they can go about their day and if we stay on schedule we can have the stylists do any touch ups if they need to?

    ETA: It's airbrush makeup so it should last no problem but just wondering if people are going to be fighting over who has to go first!

    @brd2be I'd kind of let the hair and makeup team make the decision as to who they do first or last. They do this kind of thing all the time and I'm sure they have a typical game plan. I do think 8am is very early, but since you're doing all of your pictures before the ceremony, that means you'll have to start early, especially since you'll be getting ready at a hotel. But because you're going to get ready at a hotel, it will be easier to start at 8am.

    We started hair and makeup at 8:00 and nobody complained about going first. We had 5 HMUAs on our team and 8 girls getting ready so more than half of us had to go first anyway, and I had food, coffee and mimosas available so that helped. Having the parents go first is a good idea, and then if there are any girls in your group who are early risers they might be willing to go earlier too.
