Hair/makeup schedule?

Katherine, on December 9, 2019 at 9:27 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 10
How did you decide what order your bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done in? Does the bride go first? Last? Did you get your hair or makeup done first? Our ceremony is at 3:30 and I have three bridesmaids plus my mom is also getting her hair and makeup done.

From what I've read, the bride is usually first. That way if the stylist starts to run out of time, the bride isn't the one having her hair rushed/unfinished. As far as hair or makeup first, I've usually seen hair done first. I'm sure it would be fine either way though!

I’ve always seen the bride go last, that’s what my hair stylist and MUA recommended and what we did. I wouldn’t want my hair and makeup done at 8:30 am for a 4:30 pm ceremony. You want it to be as fresh as possible. Everyone else just kind of went whenever they were ready, it worked out fine.

I have always thought the bride would go last. I plan to go last for hair and makeup. We are getting hair done first then makeup.

I'm sure it's fine (and probably preferred) for the Bride to go last as PPs have said, just make sure your stylist is keeping an eye on the clock to make sure everything is running to schedule - if she gets behind she can bump you up.

We were taking photos with our bridal party beforehand so I checked with my photographer what time we would be need to be done by in order to get all of the photos we wanted. Once I knew that I told the hair stylist and makeup artist and they determined what time we would need to start based on the number of people. I picked who went first based on where they were staying the night before and who I knew was more of a morning person. I was the 4th person to have my hair done. My mom, one bridesmaid and 2 flower girls had their hair done after me. I was the second one to have my makeup done. My mom and 2 flower girls had their makeup done after me. My ceremony was at 4:30 pm. They started prepping my hair at 10:15 am. My makeup was started at 11:45 am. It was perfect for the entire day.

Your HMUA should provide you with a schedule based on what services she is providing, how many people you have, if she has others coming to help her, etc. I recommend the bride going last so that your makeup and hair are freshly done. Depending on group size you could be hours in advance if you go first. Your HMUA will watch the time and make sure she gets to you with plenty of time. Just ask her for a schedule and as long as she knows what time you need to be ready you should be fine.

I went last. I did my hair first, then my makeup. I just randomly made a schedule for everyone else.

Bride last. Hair before makeup. Let your HMUA propose a schedule based on when you need to be ready and at your venue. Put your most timely and trustworthy MOH/bridesmaid/mother first and slot the others in after that. If you’re eating /snacking, wrap up your eating/drinking before lip color is applied. In my case that meant an apply/reapply of everyone’s lip color just before we left the hotel for the venue.

It was an unforgetable day - the ceremory was about to begin but we had nearly nothing done. I should have had my hair styled early but the hairstylist was late for almost two hours! What was worse was that she left her tools behind. What could she do? Time is urgent, so she had to do it in the simplest and fast way with limited tools we had: hair clips, spray, comb. I had to admit that she was really skillful and creative, she create wonderful heatless curls with my hair.

Our vendor requested I (bride) be last for hair and make up. I asked my bridesmaids if they had a preference for times since several have children. We started with my mom and cousin at 7 am and finished by noon with everyone. We also had a ready room available so we could all hang out and have a girls day before leaving for the ceremony.
