Hair/makeup artist not responding to my email...HELP!

Sydney, on June 9, 2013 at 1:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I booked my hair/makeup artist last year in November for my upcoming wedding in September. I am a destination bride so I did my research online (yelp/weddingwire...etc)and found my makeup artist, booked her right away and paid a deposit as she has perfect reviews.

HOWEVER...

When I emailed her back in Febuary this year regarding a ceremony time change, I waited for 3 weeks without any reply. I had to track her down by calling her and she then said she will reply to my email so she's got my email but just never bothered to reply.

Then I emailed her again in April because one of my bridesmaids cancelled on me and on the contract it says I have to notify her of any changes as soon as I can. I still havent gotten any response from her yet and it's June now. I just sent her another email asking her to confirm she is aware of the changes yesterday, still no reply Smiley sad

What should I do? Am I overreacting? Should I start looking for someone new? Please help!

Definitely call her. I always prefer to contact people through email, and I think that a lot of people around my age/generation (I'm 26) usually go to email first. But a lot of vendors are either not 100% tech savvy or just don't get around to their email enough.

She SHOULD be responding to email, and the GOOD thing about email is that you have a record of alerting her to the change right away. So in the future, I would always send an email first so you have the record, and then call after a few days.

    Definitely call her.

I would also reconsider using her services. Did you sign a contract? Can you get your deposit back?

Thank you so much! I am very glad to know I am not overreacting and THIS IS something I should be concerned about. She is a very popular hair/makeup artist in that area so I understand she must have tons of weddings to do and is very busy but she should at least let me know she is busy and will be delaying returning emails.

It's really hard for me to get to her by phone because we live in totally different timezones.

I am reconsidering using her services because I just don't trust her anymore. I am constantly worrying about whether she's got my time right or whether she is going to show up that day. I paid a $50 deposit for $450 services but if losing that $50 can give me a peace of mind I am willing to give up the deposit and cancel with her. I just found an artist who is available to do my hair/makeup for my wedding but I have a feeling this current one will give me a hard time when I try to cancel, or better yet, she won't even reply to my email to cancel. Frustrating!
