Hair question

Samantha, on July 28, 2017 at 10:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I hair super thin pin straight hair. My hair does not curl or hold curls well even with hair spray. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get the curls to hold?

This is the style I want to have my hair done as for my wedding but with my hair being so thin and not holding curls well I worry that it won't work. I have searched plan b ideas for hairstyles if my hair doesn't hold the curls but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks that may help me.

Thanks in advance.

Your stylist should have ideas about what will work for your particular hair. You can always give it a shot at your trial and then change course if you're not happy with the staying power.

I suggest sponge rollers or rods. Rods are better. Wet your hair, towel dry then apply volume gel or foam. Sit under a dryer. Usually 30 mins. Possible 40. Sometimes roller sets work best for fine hair. Hope this helps.

My stylist curls my hair sometimes after she colors it, it stays forever! I have fine, thin hair too. I can text her and ask her what she uses to get it to stay!

Thank you very much, I haven't tried sponge rollers or rods. Honestly the most I have tried is a basic curling iron from Walmart and when I was younger I had my hair permed which didn't end up curled at all only poofy.

@HisBeauty that would be great thank you.

Possibly extensions, the same length as your hair but to act as filler, basically? Talk to your hair stylist for sure.

Take a shower before you go to bed, leave your wet hair in a towel until it's wet but not sopping. Put some mousse in your hair and then roll it up in foam rollers and sleep in them. Your hair will be dry when you wake up and you should have some curls with serious staying power. I used to do competition cheerleading and this is how we had to curl our hair to make it stay (adding hairspray helps too, of course). There's also a hairspray that every theatre program I've participated in uses, and as soon as I can remember the name I'll add that to the comment.

ETA: There's Aussie Instant Freeze (my favorite), and Rave hairspray. Both are awesome.

I would look into a protein building treatment over the next few months. Also, like others said do a trial and see how it goes. Perhaps think about the hairstyle for the ceremony then pub it for the reception? Mine doesn't hold curl too well and my ceremony is coastal... so an updo for me!

Thank you I will definitely look into it. I'm not looking to change my hair over a few months I'm fine with how it is normally. My only concern was with the wedding being

In exactly two weeks I was just concerned about my hairstyle of choice. Thank you though.

My hair could never hold curls for more than the second it takes me to walk passed the door at my hairdresser. Then I bought that conair curling iron and oh man it lasts for days. It's an expensive one but it's worth it. All you gotta do is dry your hair, either air dry or blow dry (if you're blow drying don't use anything but the blow dry, no brushes nothing). Brush your hair like normal after drying and start curling. It's super easy to use and it takes no time at all. I don't put any products in my hair before or after, not even hairspray. Lasts for days. I'll see if I can find a link to the iron.

Infiniti Pro by Conair Curl Secret; Purple https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E68O4JU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_6kjFzbKCWRRAM Here. Buy Conair. The cheaper brands are not worth it.

My hair is super straight and doesn't hold a curl we'll either. My stylist put a bunch of prep products in, curled and sprayed then pinned them up to set them well. As they were setting she did make up then took down the hair. Lasted pretty long I was surprised!

My hair is the exact same as you described and I am looking for a style very similar to yours! I was told to get extensions the same length, and my hair trial is the 12th. My hair gal says it'll totally help. I hope you're happy with the finished product!

Have you tried hot rollers? I know most people don't use them anymore but, it worked for my hair when I was younger & it wouldn't hold curl well. Or try the rollers you sleep in & put them in when your hair is still wet. Good luck!

I'm a stylist at a salon! We recommend you showering the day before, not washing it the morning of, and putting some mousse in it to prep it some. Your stylist should be able to use products to help it stay. I wouldn't roll it yourself, unless you're completely confident. It could alter the direction your hair is laying and might not turn out exactly how you want. They should definitely be able to do a trial. Try to schedule it in the morning so you can test the staying power throughout the day! Good luck!

I would suggest using a curling wand instead of a curling iron. If I curl my hair with a traditional curling iron it falls out within a couple hours. If I use a curling wand it lasts for DAYS. It lasts until I wash it. Definitely a must try!

I like kms hot flex cream oh I love it so much... and a nice dry hair spray . Day old hair .. a roller set would work but it takes alot of time ... under a dryer it takes me over 2 hours to dry ... but i have thick hair and I hate the way rollers look on me .. but might work for you . .. another thing I do with clients is blow dry round brush and roll up and pin and spray ... leave that for a few mins after I'm done and ... remove .. last much longer ... sorry if the post looks goofy my nails are wet
