Hair & Make-Up Timeline

Katie, on March 28, 2016 at 2:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

So I'm making an estimated timeline to determine when I need to have my photographer show up. I have 7 people getting their hair & make-up done at the venue. My hairstylist is bringing an assistant but I only have one MUA. Hairstylist said that hair takes 60 minutes per person and 90 minutes for the bride. MUA said make-up application takes 30 minutes. I've been told the bride shouldn't go last in case you're running late. Does the entire bridal party need to have make-up and hair done by the time the photographer arrives? The last wedding I was a bridesmaid in all of us had our hair done but no make-up yet. So all the "get ready" photos we look ok but honestly all of us are really washed out. Do you think my bridesmaids will be upset if I schedule the hair starting at 8:30 in the morning when we are not doing their pictures until almost 3:00 pm? We are doing ALL the pictures before the ceremony which starts at 5:00 pm and dinner starts at 6:00 pm. I have my photographer for 8 hours.

Right now I have hair and make up for 7 people (me, BMs, both moms and my sister) scheduled for 8am. basically whoever isn't getting their hair done will be getting their make up done.

photographer is currently scheduled to arrive at 2:30pm. thinking about adding an hour to have her show up at 1:30pm.

we plan on doing a first look and having all family pics done prior to the wedding. ceremony is 4:30pm and it will be dark out by the time its over, so no chance to get outdoor pics done. that's why we're doing it all beforehand.

I don't plan on having 'getting ready' pics done of us looking like hell before hair and make up.

EDIT - I would rather have everyone done with hair and makeup earlier and have time to eat or pick up whatever items they forgot in the hotel rooms, etc. Don't want to be cutting it close with pics/ceremony time and someone is still in the chair with one eyelash on!

EDIT again - we have access to the venue at 11 am. we plan to have subway or Panera trays delivered so we can all eat and settle in (all staying at the venue that night). salon has 1 make up girl that takes 30 min each (45 for me). hair will take about the same amount of time. so likely be out of the salon between 11-12pm. that leaves 1.5 hours to get to the venue and eat if I do bump the photographer up an hour. time will be flying though!

That sounds like a pretty good timeline =) I was thinking of having photographer show up at about 1:00 but didn't know if that was too early. The last wedding I was in all of our bridesmaids were in our robes as we were putting the bride in her dress. The pictures are kinda weird looking lol. I figure I wanted everyone ready to go by the time I was ready to put my dress on this way we all look pretty put together lol.

We had 8 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, 2 moms and 1 bride. We had to be at the venue by 130pm for photos before our ceremony at 330pm. I had girls showing up at 6am to start. Hair took 45 minutes per girl and make up also took 45 minutes per girl. We barely made it on time. I went before 1 bridesmaid and both moms. None of my girls were upset. They knew that is part of being in a bridal party. And we spent the whole day together laughing and having fun while getting ready and having getting ready photos taken. We did not have the photographer come to get the getting ready photos until I was in the chair because we wanted everyone to be done except me and then to include me after I was done. You want all the girls done for the getting ready photos in my opinion. Those photos are so worth it and so much fun to take together Smiley smile

I think you should have everyone's hair and makeup done before the photographer arrives. You can always stage some pictures where it looks like someone's putting mascara on you or your mom is fixing your hair. My photographer wants to get there at 4 and our ceremony isn't until 6. I'm thinking about telling him to take pictures of the boys first!

Agreed! I was a BM and the make up girl was late so we all just did our own. scrambling around last minute is a nightmare!

I have two hair stylists who also do makeup coming to my Bridal Suite the morning of the wedding at 8:30am since we are leaving around noon to be at the venue at 1:00pm for pictures as we are doing ours before the wedding too. I think you just need to do what is best for you and your bridesmaids will be fine with whatever! I have 8 bridesmaids, however I believe only 5 of us are having our hair professionally done and then anyone who wants makeup can have theirs done as well.

I also have 7 people total for hair and makeup. My mom and FMIL are bringing in their own hair stylist and MUA. This is my timeline with my MUA estimating 35-40 minutes per BM and 60 minutes for me/ my hair stylist estimating 45 mins pp (we have a curler, so it'll be staggered):

7:15 AM: All BMs arrive at hotel (getting ready in hospitality room)

    7:30 AM: MUA Arrives

    8:00 AM: Hair stylists arrive

    10:30 AM: Bride's Hair (1 hour)

    11:30 AM: Bride's Make-up (1 hour)

12:00 PM: Photographer Arrives (detail shots while we finish getting ready)

1:00 PM: All hair and make-up done for robe photos (total hours with hair and make-up: 5.5)

1:20 PM: Get in Dresses/ Bride's Dad first look

    2:00 PM: Bridesmaid first look

    2:15-2:50: Bridesmaid and bride photos

    3:00 PM: First look

    3:30-4:45: Bride and groom portraits

    5:00 PM: Ceremony

We have two photographers, so one will be with the men before our first look- then both with us.

As a recent bride myself, I scheduled hair and makeup at about the same time and I am so happy that I did!!! I had 8 ladies (bridemaids, MOH, mom, grandma, hostesses) getting makeup done and 4 ladies getting hair done so I staggered everything. Everyone who was NOT a bridesmaid/MOH got makeup done first. So by the time the hair stylist arrived, I could truly stagger it. One of my bridesmaids got makeup done first, then switched to hair. Another bridesmaid got hair first then switched to makeup and so on... Someone was in both chairs at all times.

My ceremony started at 5pm. Makeup started at 8:30am and hair started at 10am.
