Hair Growth

NikiG44, on February 21, 2018 at 3:58 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 23

So I'm getting married in October. Starting to try lifestyle changes to be in the best shape possible so I look flawless by then. One thing I'm noticing is my hair health not improving. I'm trying to drink a lot more water, take vitamins, and wear it natural to eliminate as much heat as possible. I want long curls in a half up half down style, but my hair is only right below shoulder length atm. I've been trying to get regular trims as well, but as soon as it grows back to this point it starts breaking again. My natural hair is pretty curly and dry. I looked at a chart to explain and I have 3B pattern, but more dryness. Any tips on good hair growth products/home remedies you used to get ready for the big day?

Collagen! Vital Proteins has a great collagen supplement you can order on Amazon and just put it in your tea or coffee in the morning! When I was taking it every day it made my hair and my nails grow and be strong like crazy! I highly recommend.

I have very short thin hair that does not grow. I've taken biotin, itworks hair skin and nails pills, I've used Mane and Tail (this actually worked for about a month), Nioxin hair treatments, etc. I'm also at a loss. I'm just trying to drink tons of water, take extra vitamins of things I may need, and not wash my hair as much. I've also stopped using a straightener and onyl blow dry my hair on the "cool" setting.

Have you tried Castor Oil? I have used a castor oil and argan oil mix that has really helped my hair. Another thing I found that has helped is making sure I am getting enough Vitamin D. You can get really Vitamin D deficient and stress with that can make your hair not want to grow.

I feel you. I've tried most of those products as well. Might check out this collagen stuff that @Elle mentioned.

I had the same issue. My hair is very thick and curly. Curly hair needs a lot of moisture. moisturizing is key. Also scalp massages with Jamaican Black Castor oil and peppermint oil. My routine is 10 minute scalp massage at night...moisturize with water, oil and cream (LOC method). My hair grew to middle of my back after three months. Look up LOC and green house effect methods. Hope this helps.

I'll have to check my vitamins, but I believe I covered everything when I got the bottle. I use argan regularly. I've tried an African castor oil and it was wayy too thick and greasy for my hair. Do you mean the regular castor oil that great-grandmas would try to force a spoonful of down throats of children? I'm willing to try anything haha.

Wow! I'll have to get the FH to work on those scalp massages. But yes, leaving it curly is soooo high maintenance. Thanks, I will check it out.

My hair is naturally curly, used to straighten it when I was a kid but haven't done that type of treatment in years.I had my hair in braids and when I took them down I lost so much hair that I freaked and tried everything in the book. So I started using a hair mask essentially of castor oil, coconut oil, avocado oil... put on my hair wrap my head for an hour then wash it out. My hair has grown and is very soft now.

Do you have a certain brand of coconut oil you use? We use it a lot for cooking (and I'll confess I've used it in a pinch before when I was out of my normal stuff) but I haven't seen it purely in the hair product aisles.

Take hair vitamins and drink lots of water. Also try massaging your scalp. Be mindful that coconut oil doesn’t work for everyone, for some people it is great at moisturizing and making hair soft, for me it makes it tangled and crunchy.

Have you thought about protective styling? Maybe get crochet braids, box braids or twists, mini twists etc? YouTube had a lot of ideas. Hair growth is all about genetics to be honest. I have been natural for 6 years and I’m only armpit length. Lol. Some of us are just not meant to have long hair. There are also beautiful natural looking extensions now that you can use for your wedding day to add length.

Yes, look for regular castor oil, the site I linked you to as you mix the castor oil with the argan oil so it isn’t as greasy. It also helps to heat up the mix before you put it in your hair. I tried Jamaican Black Castor oil and it just sat in my hair. Some castor oils contain too much moisture so your hair rejects it.

Jamaican black castor is also thick but the peppermint oil thins it out. I also heard regular castor oil works. If you have a Sallys by you they have the Jamaican one. The struggle is real....lol

I have had twists and box braids before. They do make my hair grow like weeds, but they grow so fast they almost start dreading and I just never have a good weekend to take them out. I’ve tried weaves, but I think I’m allergic. My scalp itches to the point of burning. It would be oh so convenient for the wedding and honeymoon though :/

Collagen is helpful! You can jut mix it in your water/coffee/smoothies/whatever! I also use Monat hair products and it works wonders! A little bit more expensive but lasts longer and definitely worth the price... better than drugstore shampoo, conditioners, ...

Have you ever heard of Monat? Their products are formulated to help mimic the bodies natural oils and promote growth. I have been using for about a month and notice such a difference, all the women in my family even started using now too!

I was about to say the same thing! I grew up on cancer medicines and always had thin fine horrible hair. It grew 8 inches in a year and is finally thick and full and beautiful! I’m using the intense repair treatment to help it grow even more for my wedding.
