Hair extensions??

Sarah, on November 19, 2019 at 9:50 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 20
Hi ladies! So for the past 11 years (as long as I’ve known my fiancée) I’ve had short hair, sometimes VERY short. The longest it’s gotten is almost to my shoulders at which point I quickly chopped it off again. However I’ve tried on my dress with a headpiece and veil and I really feel like the short hair does NOTHING for the look. I’m currently committed to growing my hair for the next year (wedding October 2020) but I’m wondering about experiences with extensions? I would only be looking to make my hair fuller and down to my shoulders so I could do a cute updo of some kind. I’m nervous it would damage my hair. Pictures? Experiences? Thanks!

WOW. Stunning dress and accessories. Hayley Paige or Watters?

I had tape-in extensions for the first time and loved them! That allowed me to do a half up/down with curls I wanted. (I don’t have pics on my phone)
I heard not to do the bonded kind because it can be more damaging.

I think you look gorgeous just as you are! I have struggled with my hair as well - pcos and diabetes have made it thin, especially along my scalp - and I made the decision to wear a halo extension so I could do a half up do without worrying about gaps where you can see my skull. I researched the others, and I'm not sure I would trust them. But that's me! I was terrified about hurting my already fragile hair. There are a lot of halo options that you just pop in on the day if you want some more length.

Aw, thank you! That’s my problem too though. My hair is very thin and sparse upfront. What is a halo extension?

Girl, you’ve got a good eye, the dress is wtoo by watters! They’re my favorite. I’ve heard the same about the bonded extensions. I think I’m going to get tape in before the wedding to try it out! About how much did they run you?

We sold this dress at a bridal salon I worked at earlier this year. I love this dress! I might have gotten it if it had been available for my wedding in 2017. It looks beautiful on you and I can’t believe there’s a matching veil. 💕

Gosh it’s been a while but I know the extensions were $200+ and then there was the cost of putting them in and shaping them but I also had color done too. Ask your local hairstylists. I would highly recommend putting them in about two weeks before your wedding so you can adjust/remove any that show through. They look/feel the best 1-3 weeks after putting in. I kept them in for 6 weeks (nice to have for honeymoon too).

I have used clip in extensions as well has bonded extensions over the years. I really like both and they both have their pros and cons. However, if you are just looking to add fullness for your wedding day, I would use clip in extensions. I used them for my wedding day and they really took my hair to the next level. They look very natural (if your hair stylist knows what they are doing) and are fairly inexpensive compared to bonded extensions. They also do not damage your natural hair.

So a halo is just a wire or cord that goes around your head and secures the extensions in place without messing with your natural hair. It appealed to me because I read horror stories about the others breaking your hair - I just want some length for a day, not damage! I feel you. Just know your Future spouse finds you beautiful no matter what - my FH thinks I'm silly worrying over my hair.

Yes that’s definitely how mine feels! He’s only ever known me with short hair so he’s hesitant about a longer length!

It’s so fun! I loved helping other brides. It is a tiring job though (I was happy about losing 5 pounds instantly by being on my feet all day & not snacking). It’s great as a weekend job. I had no idea the “behind the scenes” either. Whole new respect for bridal stores and stylists. 💕

Shops are always looking for stylists, especially during Oct-Mar I think.

FYI, it doesn’t pay much. Usually minimum wage plus commission. But great 2nd job and very rewarding. I loved helping brides feel good and find their dream dress. ❤️

Hair extensions?? 2This was from when I first got them put in - this is 18-20in. (Above pic is before & after)
At my last appointment I had my hair dress cut them down to about 12-15inches (Below pic)

I have had the tape-in extensions since July 2019 and I LOVE them! I definitely feel more confident and I just love how my hair lays when it’s curled!

    Pros:

Extensions are real hair so I can wash & style as normal.

    My hair looks fuller.

Last anywhere from 5-10 weeks (I usually get them put back in every 6-8 weeks as my hair grows out and the tape is easier to see).

The same hair can be used for up to 4-5 applications.

(If done correctly) Extensions will not damage real hair.

    Cons:

Extensions + application cost lots of money.

Will take longer to wash, dry, & style.

If you are looking for something less permanent and cheaper, definitely try the halo or clip in extensions.

I did clip in extensions. They were $260 from Milk & Blush (ordered online). They are real human hair & were 26" long. They were AMAZING. I read a lot of comments that they would feel heavy and give me a headache but I didn't have that at all. I did half up half down but I've had tons of friends add extensions for updos too. I felt so bridal & had true "Pinterest hair" because of the extensions. They didn't damage my hair at all since they were clip ins, but I've never heard of sew in ones damaging either.

Yeeeeah, my FH will look at my hair and go "it looks fine", but I and my anxiety can see problems! I figured the halo would be nice and easy day of, and I can leave it out if my hair actually behaves. My fh also thinks I'm worrying too much about my appearance, but my experience a lot of people do look at the bride!

    Hair extensions?? 5

I have tape in extensions and I LOVE them! I don't have my pro pics back yet so this is all I have. The hair itself cost me $120 (I got it at cost, and it is real human hair) and it was $100 to put them in. I know my lady is a bit cheaper than most but if you look around you can find great deals.

I have had tape in extensions. I actually just took them out. Cost for hair, which was human hair, was about $600. Initial application was about $150. I had to go back every 8 was, have them removed, re taped, replaced at the roots. It was $50 an hour and took at least 3 hrs. Take in extensions are expensive and time consuming. They do look great but require work to maintain the great appearance. I agree with some of the others that suggest clip ins or halo. Good luck!

Your dress and veil is GORGEOUS! Your short hair looks beautiful with the dress I think, but if you want to get extensions, then do it! I have never been able to grow my hair out as well. My hair is just really thin and I color it a lot so I never give it a chance! I have done extensions before and have always loved them. I've done the clip ins which for me is the safest and my hairdresser was able to blend my hair with the extensions seamlessly. I plan on putting extensions in for my day as well!

Halo extensions are great for a single day use and because you can easily practice putting them in yourself. Do be wary that some cheaper brands might use tight fitting bands that I've personally found start to hurt after a while. On your wedding day, you'll be wearing the extensions for upwards of 12 hours (maybe more!), so they will need to be comfy and not cause a headache. I learned from experience. I spent a bit more on this brand and they've worked well: https://www.rubin-extensions.com/collections/one-piece-extensions

Another option are clip-ins. Again, a great temporary solution if you just want to wear extensions on the day. Your hair stylist might be able to help attach them too. I'd recommend testing out a style with them first in your hair styling trial.
