Hair and Makeup worth it?

rachskye, on January 23, 2018 at 1:06 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 25
I am no professional but doing makeup is something I find generally really fun.

Is is it worth spending the money on makeup and hair?? I’ve been going back and forth a lot recently !!

Hard to tell tbh. A friend of mine had hair and make up artists for her wedding and while she looked great, her makeup wasn't much better than how she does it normally.
I personally feel confident in my ability to do my own make up and plan to do it myself. However, I can't style hair for cheap. To save money though, I plan to go to my local Ulta and book a wedding hairstylist appointment for like $70 (includes trial and day of) to handle that portion. They could do make up too but I think I can handle it.

So I think it kinda depends on your budget, if you think you can do it yourself, and if you'd like some pre-wedding relaxation before the aisle.

It is definitely worth it! Removing the stress from yourself on the day of your wedding and having a professional quickly get you camera ready should not be overlooked so quickly. The lights from the cameras will wash you out wearing normal makeup so it will pay off to hire someone to help you look your very best. As far as your hair, again, you don't need the added stress of figuring out your hair that day. This is the one day in your life you're supposed to be pampered and look your absolute best and this will be preserved in pictures forever. Make it count.

I’m still on the fence. I’ve had three trials and have not been blown away. Plus it’s a lot of stinking money! FH wants me to go for another trial. He feels strongly about me being pampered. I just don’t know

Less stress to leave it to a pro, and a chance to be pampered on the big day. Keep in mind you will be photographed more than any other day in your life.

I feel the same way. I am having my hairstylist come do my hair the morning of my wedding, but I'm doing my own makeup. Doing my own makeup just calms me, and I know what I like. However, after researching wedding makeup, I realized that there is particular makeup you have to use with flash photography. So I went to Sephora and asked for their advice on which brands to get and also educated myself via YouTube on the techniques of applying wedding makeup. FYI, after my supply shopping spree, I sent about ~$200 on what I need JUST for the day-of. A makeup artist make-up artist would cost you the same the day of so it's up to you.

I think it depends on your own comfort level. If the photographer knows what they are doing they should be able to take your picture without specialty make up. It's not hard to get the lighting right lol. You aren't going to be in a studio with 6 lights all on you. I am going to do my own because I know the look I want and I honestly don't trust someone I've never met to do it the way I want it. We are doing a destination wedding so there aren't any trials I can do so that kinda kills that idea for me. I'm going to have short hair for the wedding so I'm going to practice a few looks and work on getting to the one I want and getting it down to a science.

Totally worth it. With the exception of touching up my lipstick, my make up looked perfect until I took it off, 14 hours later.

If you are comfortable doing it yourself I say go for it. Personally, I do most of my friends/families makeup for events and I don’t think I’d feel comfortable having anyone else do my makeup. My hair I just want down and nicely curled so I’m going to do that myself as well. Maybe you could do a mock wedding day trial for yourself so you can calculate exactly how long it’s going to take you and have everything you’re going to need set out already. That’s what I’m going to doSmiley smile

A lot of people will tell you it's worth it. And I'm getting my hair done because its really short and I wear the same style everyday so I'm interested to see what a stylist comes up with, but I also like doing my own makeup.

I'm very picky about my makeup and I've had it done a few times for various reasons and never loved it so I will be doing my own on my wedding day. It will help calm me and give me something else to focus on for a minute.

I think its worth it, but I found a really wonderful and affordable HMUA. If I was spending several hundred dollars, I may feel differently, but I'm only spending $255 between trials and the day of (including tips) for my hair AND makeup.

I thought it was totally worth it, especially as someone who basically doesn't wear makeup on a daily basis. it's nice to be pampered and also to know that your look will last all day, and it really does make a difference in photos (i was amazed at how much makeup it took me to look Natural, haha).

I thought it was totally worth it. I had a dry run at a beauty school in July for an updo and I learned 1) a bun updo was gonna take too long and 2) I did not want an updo with a bun!!! LOL!

I loved my hair that day, my makeup was perfect, plus I had my eyebrows waxed (normal for me) plus an upper lip wax and chin wax and I paid $$$ for those three services. Did not want a rookie waxing me! People will be looking at your face, taking pictures of your face......why not look your best? (Makeup will apply and look better on a waxed surface, btw!)

    Best wishes!

Do cameras and lights really make that much of a difference in photos? I just want to make sure because if they really do then I may opt in for a makeup artist.

However I am less of an enthusiast about my hair considering I'm doing it all down and straight with a floral crown or some sort hair piece.

I get SO picky about not wanting to look too overdone but also wanting to not look like a bare face. It is like this weird in-between.

I spent $60 for my dress on Amazon - I dropped more for waxing, including a generous tip, than my dress!!! LOL! Also - my makeup girl said she could tell I was waxed as my makeup went on way more smoothly. Plus a bit of pampering never hurts.....

Cameras and lighting is EVERYTHING. that is why it’s so important to have the right products and product knowledge to know, if you’re taking flash photos you don’t want a white cast powder. You don’t want a harsh contour line or too bright of a blush. It’s definitely worth it because it relieves your from stress! It’s your big day you deserve to be pampered.
