Hair and Makeup - When to book?

Kathryn, on December 28, 2015 at 12:52 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

How far in advance would you say to book hair and makeup? I was thinking of booking soon for me and my 4 bridesmaids for my July wedding. Is that too soon? Also I was thinking of booking hair for all of us and just makeup for me. Is it fair to expect them to do their own makeup? Is anyone paying for hair for their bridesmaids? I was thinking of doing it. For a 5 pm wedding, what time do you recommend booking all of this for?

I booked my MUA first! If you are having hair and make up people come out you should pay for both for the bridal party. I paid for hair and make up for my bridal party in addition to my own hair and make up. We started early for hair and make up even with a 4:30 ceremony. But we did a first look and pictures before the ceremony.

I would book now if you have someone in mind. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to do their own, but I would extend the offer to them, making it clear that if they want to do it, it'll be whatever amount. That way, you don't have to pay for it. The only time you should pay for hair and makeup for your BMs is if you require a specific look. Otherwise, they can do it themselves or use your hair and makeup person at their own expense.

I can only afford to pay for their hair or make up, but I am letting them choose which one they would prefer.

I am paying for hair and makeup for myself.

and have a cousin that does makeup and family friend that does hair that I'm paying to do my BMs (they cost alot less than who Im having do mine) and Im doing it as a gift to my bridesmaids, Ill probably still get them something little but Its nice to be pampered.

My sister did the same thing for her wedding last month and I loved not having to do my hair and make up

I booked mine last month for a September wedding. I am offering hair and makeup for my bridal party, but they can do their own if they choose. Everyone will pay for their own. I've never been in a wedding where the bride paid for hair/makeup.

As a stylist depending on their availability there is nothing wrong with booking it now. We have over 15 girls in our salon and saturdays are depending on times months out for certain girls.. I.e. my next saturday opening is in Feb. So to just get the time and date secured id do it now.

I'm paying for my girls therefore I am requiring it. That's the only way you can require them to get it, is if you pay for it. My salon is booked!

Yes, think about booking as soon as possible for your July wedding! There are hair/makeup trials to consider. I went to 2 different hair/makeup stylists (I didn't care for the 1st one and went elsewhere). This took up a couple of months alone, just to decide on who I was going with, and scheduling availabilities. The better stylists/beauty companies book up fast, depending upon who you are using. I've found the private (your usual hair stylist who you see often) usually have a little more flexibility.

I had a small(ish) bridal party, I paid for my bridesmaid and maid of honors hair and makeup. It got expensive. $425.00 for just us 3! Not including the tip, it ended up costing $500.00 (approx).

There's no harm in booking now. Saves you a piece of mind. Cross that one off the list.

I booked mine in August for my May wedding, so I definitely don't think it's too early to book.

We are paying for one night at the hotel, so I am not paying for hair or makeup. It's not in the budget. I gave them the option to pay to get their hair done professionally and 3/5 have opted for it. My MOH has super short hair, so it's a waste for her to get it done professionally in both of our opinions. I have spoken to the hair stylist about the possibility of the bm that doesn't want it changing her mind as I think she might, but I'm cool with it if she chooses to do her own. If you aren't cool with them doing their own, then require professional hair and/or makeup and pay for it.

I booked my MUA right away, but I have to wait until the first of the year to book my hair stylists. While I have yet to have a trial with either, they will absolutely be my ladies as I am very familiar with their work! If you don't have experience with them, I'd book trials with a couple of individuals and then choose.

As for what to expect your BP to pay for, I think you just need to set an expectation ahead of time. Upfront, I asked them to have the hair done, but make-up is completely up to them. I'm not requiring them to buy shoes or jewelry (provided,) so paying for hair didn't upset anyone. While some will think asking them to pay for their hair is bad etiquette, it works in my situation. I actually don't know anyone who has paid for BP hair. Maybe that's just my area. Or my friends.

I'm so excited for make-up and hair trials! I think it'll be another "this is happening" moment.

Nope, I think it would be smart to book soon! You may need multiple trials to make up your mind. I did 2 hair trials (with 2 different stylists) to book and then did ANOTHER trial with the stylist I booked closer to my wedding to really nail down the look I wanted and after I had all my accessories (hair comb and veil).

I have been in many weddings and only had pro makeup a few times, but have always had pro hair. Its totally normal to ask your girls to do their own makeup OR give them the opportunity to pay on their own to have it done if they would prefer! That's what we did for our wedding and I was honestly surprised that all but 1 of my friends opted to pay for pro makeup as well! Keep in mind, for many women being a BM is kind of a fun excuse to get dolled up so they may make the most of it.

In terms of timeline, are you taking any pics ahead of your ceremony? (I assume so, even if you don't do a first look). Talk to your photographer about what time pictures need to start. Then, your hair and makeup team will know what time they need to start in order to get 5 of you ready by x time. Also keep in mind- do the moms, grandmoms, flower girls, etc need hair or makeup done? Don't forget to factor them in as well.

I booked as soon as I found the salon I wanted (and my wedding isn't until October!). They'll (or mine is) help you with what time you'll need to start and your timeline, you just tell them what services you want for who. I'm not paying for my bridesmaids hair or makeup but I gave them the option to use the salon for both, either, or neither.

My wedding is April 2nd and both my hair stylist and MUA said they don't have their 2016 books yet and confirm in January. I'm a little nervous but they assured me they are not booking that far in advance.

Metamorphosis NY- Diamond Narvaéz Hair. Look her up, she is absolutely fantastic, she's personable and very flexible! She's done hair for not only myself and my bridesmaids but for my sister in laws sweet 16, junior and senior prom. She goes above and beyond to make sure you're happy.

I booked mine back in October. I started looking in August though. So Fairly ahead for sure. I gave the option to my BM's if they wanted hair and makeup or just one or the other. They all wanted both. They are paying for it though, that is why I gave them the option. Everyone is different though.

I am booking for all my girls, the pictures won't turn out as well if everyone's make up didn't match.
