Hair and makeup cost?

Katelyn, on October 1, 2019 at 7:08 PM Posted in Planning 1 9
I am looking at hiring hair and makeup artists and feeling a bit torn. Im having a semi destination wedding (a little over an hour away) I’m making it optional for my girls to get hair and makeup done. However, since I know they probably won’t have the convenience of using their local hair stylist, I don’t want to pick someone so expensive that no one can afford it. What’s considered average for hair and makeup for bridesmaids?

I paid $150 for hair and $150 for makeup, bridesmaids were $90 per service which seems about average. I’m in a wedding as a bridesmaid this weekend and it’s $100 per service for bridesmaids.

Mine is $230 for hair and makeup, my girls are $150 for hair and makeup. This is for Savannah Ga, so it’s a popular destination place.

Such a pretty area! We are from Nashville and my wedding is in Bowling, Green KY. So it is a bit of a pickle because the stylists in my area are a little higher because Nashville is kind of a destination place too (plus added travel fees). I’ve looked in the area of my venue but I just keep coming up short since Bowling, Green is a smaller area.

My hair is $75 and my makeup is being done by my FSIL(pro MUA). Mani/pedi is $60. I don’t have a bridal party.

I've been in 2 weddings, both times I paid $150 for HAMU. At my wedding, I paid $140 for BM HAMU but I covered it for everyone.

Have you used Wedding Wire's vendor search for this? You just choose the category of vendor you are looking for, and plug in your area, and you get a list! You might find someone there that is less expensive, or willing to travel without an exorbitant fee.

I know a lot of gals on here are giving you the "average" price for this service. I have numbers like that too. But I don't like it one bit. It's highway robbery in my opinion. If I wasn't so lame at doing my own hair and makeup I wouldn't pay it. But I am lame, so I have to pay someone to do it for me. I was feeling a little guilty about passing along those prices to my BMs. But they are all really good at hair, so they've chosen to do their own. They might do the pro makeup, but at $80/each, I won't be surprised if they choose to do that themselves too.

Another place you might look is Facebook. You can reach out for recommendations in your area, and see how people respond.
