hair and make up trial cost

Sci Fi Bride, on January 13, 2016 at 11:47 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

As I started looking for hair and make up vendors I was shocked that they seem to charge double for the honor of being the bride. I don't imagine they are going to take any more care of me than they are my attendants because there is a standard of quality they are going to meet. So I found this one vendor who has very good ratings and she charges the same across the board. As she says "I dont' like to punish people for falling in love." So before I booked her I wanted a hair and make up trial but her trial (she doesn't own a salon, she comes to you, period) is $50 more than the real deal. This seems a little excessive to me since everywhere else seemed cheaper than the day of. Should I email back and ask if its a typo, or just go with it? Has anyone just skipped the trial, or do you think it's important?

    Trial is important.

Most MUAs charge more for the bride because they spend more time and attention on your face, and perfect it exactly the way you like it.

The trial is important. She may charge more for trials because they tend to take longer than the actual bridal appointment--since there will be a consultation and she may have to redo your hair and makeup a few times to find the right look. I would ask her to verify the price and ask her what all that includes.

IMO, trials are very important. It gives you time to see if you'll have any allergic reactions to the makeup being used, and time will be taken to chat about style/look and you'll have an opportunity to try a variety of looks. I am not surprised that a trial is more expensive because of the additional time trying to find the perfect look. On the wedding day, there will not be time for testing/trying different looks. Bing bang boom ... she's in, does her thing and is out.

    It depends on your area.

For up-dos I charge $55, across the board. Although I may reduce the price if all they really want is just simple styled hair.

For the Bride, it's over $100, but it includes the trial run. I also charge if I go to them, but I do reduce the overall charge if I am doing the whole wedding party.

If I do go to them, I usually hang around until photos are done, that way if anything needs to be fixed, I can do it before the wedding.

I ABSOLUTELY spend more time on my brides on the day of - its their day, after all! I also generally include more in my package for the brides - they get a full size touch up kit with a compact, concealer, and all their lip products, and faux lashes are automatically included.

Attendants just get little sample size clamshells of their lipstick and a disposable brush, unless they choose to add on a full size touch up kit, lashes, etc.

During the bridal trial, we'll often try several different looks for both hair and makeup until you're totally happy. Its time consuming, but its super important - i actually bundle the cost of the trial into my bridal packages, because frankly I dont consider it to be optional.
