Hair and Make-up Artist cancelled on me today! :/

jnsangel4life, on March 15, 2018 at 1:19 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 15

I don't know what to do!!! I cannot afford the prices that people charge to do hair and makeup. I found a lady - super nice - and totally affordable. I am 52 days away from my wedding and messaged her regarding the appointment for the trial In a very apologetic reply she informed me that her brother will be in town from graduating boot camp and is marrying his fiance on the same day as my wedding. She cancelled. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I don't have $250 to pay someone to do my hair and makeup let alone an additional $100 just to see if I even like it! I'm so sad right now I really just want to cry!!!

I am SO sorry to hear that this happened to you!! This may sound crazy, but have your BM's given you a gift yet? If they could chip in, hair & make-up would be a gift you'd always remember and appreciate. If that doesn't work, please call the other person and see if she can help you find someone. It's the least she can do for cancelling on you, in my opinion. Right now I don't have any other suggestions!! My apologies. I'm praying for you. I can say I'm sure you'll be a beautiful bride!!

I'm so sorry - this is horrible! Are you comfortable doing your own makeup? They have a lot of helpful YouTube videos and you have enough time to practice. (I'm 50/50 right now with doing my own...) I agree with Shawn's idea, too -- the woman who cancelled on you should most definitely try to at least recommend a replacement. I hope you can find someone!

I didn't think of that. I just said congratulations to her family and let it go at that. As far as me doing my own? LOL. I don't wear makeup and the most I ever do for myself is straighten my hair to keep it from frizzing out. I suppose it is back to the drawing board and pray for the best. Smiley sad This really sucks!

Try your local beauty school. The girls tend to do really good work and have often been doing hair for years and are just becoming licensed. Someone at the beauty school knows someone who is a good MUA. I’m having a 19 yr old do my makeup. She has makeup tutorials online and is better than most expensive MUAs. I’m paying almost nothing and she’s phenomenal. You’ll find someone!

I’m so sorry, I know that must be so stressful, Don’t fret!! Do you have an Ulta near you? That’s where I’m getting mine done, and it’s completely reasonable.

For makeup, if you make a $50 purchase at Sephora (which can even be a gift card you can gift to someone else for a holiday), then you can schedule to have your makeup done! You need to schedule online first, but that’s an affordable way to get your makeup done for your wedding Smiley smile

What does your contract say about cancelling? Usually a vendor is on the hook to find a replacement. If not, I’d try and see if anyone at a Sephora, MAC, or Ulta near you is also a freelance MUA and see if you can hire them. Be careful just going to the store though. Their artists in store don’t actually need to be licensed.

Did you have a contract with her? Was this just an inquiry about a trial? Without a contract she did not actually cancel on you, though it is unfortunate that she happened to be unavailable

I would start contacting other professional artists in your area. You can search not only the vendor tab here, but a quick google search and instagram can help as well/

Also is sometimes more affordable to get it done in store at a salon than it is to have a MUA travel to you. I would find a salon close to your venue that provides hair and make up services and see what they charge.

Thank you all for your input. I checked out thumbtack and found some wonderful people but I actually was able to hire a different vender from here. She was one of the girls I spoke to first a s was actually going to hire until the other girl swooned me with a cheaper rate. Lesson learned but problem solved. Yay!

I would strongly suggest looking on Instagram or Facebook. I tried looking at #slomakeup
Cause SLO is the city we are getting married in. I found a woman who is a licensed cosmetologist who does weddings on the side. The trial run was $50 TOTAL. I wish you the best of luck !!
