So, first tiny bit of drama after we finally reserved our wedding sight and am starting to mail out save the dates. We're having a tiny wedding with only a max of 20 people, all of which are our closest friends and family. Of course, we already have some people (namely my future sister-in-law) getting upset because we won't allow them to invite their SO's that we don't know/don't like. Right now, it's just the SIL doing it because we don't want her dirt bag boyfriend showing up, especially seeing as they've only known each other for a few months, but she's expecting us to ask for money just so we can invite more people. No thanks.

It’s extremely rude to invite someone without their SO, so of course you’re getting negative feedback. Why would they want to come celebrate your relationship when you can’t even respect theirs?

Is it just her boyfriend or other's significant others too? I get wanting to have a small wedding, but it shouldn't result in leaving someone's boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, etc. left out. I wouldn't attend anyone's wedding if my FH wasn't invited...even if we were just dating at the time.

I agree with you as you said they have ONLY KNOWN EACH OTHER A FEW MONTHS then he is a stranger to you and your groom and I totally get with your limited guest list that he not attend.

It's your wedding and you and your fiance do whats best for you. Don't let the etiquette police on here tell you its rude or who you need to invite as it's your budget and special day.

Completely agree. Etiquette goes out the window if someone is a stranger to you, even more so if they're not a good person. Why would you want someone like that at a wedding where you're spending a lot of money and should be something special with loved ones?
